Chronic Digestive Problems
-
@retard Prior to supplementing with thyroid, did your blood markers (T3, T4, TSH, rT3) suggest thyroid dysfunction?
-
@cornwallis I didn't check t3/t4, but otherwise yes. Reverse t3 was 19, TSH 2.05 pre-thyroid.
-
Have you tried taking thiamine yet?
-
@bubble I took 1-2 grams of hcl for a week, everything smelled like thiamine, but I felt nothing.
-
In my experience, these types of broad and widely-spread symptoms can be caused by neurological issues. Your nerves control your digestive system in the end.
I am just a 23 YO so no medical advice.
-
Any other ideas?
-
@retard l Paracasei can help almost immediately.

For something simple, why not try a diet of carrot salad and milk/raw milk. Have one carrot salad 15-30 minutes before each meal of milk(raw preferred). Ray mentioned in one email exchange that there are very few microorganisms that can withstand a constant onslaught of carrot/carrot salad.
-
@Ecstatic_Hamster I can give it a shot. Have to acquire that.
-
@zalarazkhan The interesting thing here of course is that I've used many antibiotics to no avail thus far. None of them have given me the slightest improvement. Wouldn't betaine hcl act like the vinegar? Betaine hcl doesn't seem to help me. Carrot salad I already use, it seems to reduce constipation, but it does nothing else. I suppose I could try garlic, but if it was a fungus I'd be willing to use an anti-fungal. Of course I don't know that though.
-
@jamsey I have tried a milk diet, brutal reflux all the same. I haven't gone to that extent with the carrot salad, but I have tried having it twice or three times a day for example. It bulks up my stool but doesn't reduce the reflux, unfortunately.
-
@retard Have you done a colonoscopy ? That might shed some insight to whats going on maybe ?
Anyways just taking antiobiotic isnt enuff , you gotta take it for its complete course & correct dose , or else it fails & does the opposite & makes bacteria resistant.
Try a lil sip hard liqor after meals , i think its the only thing left & im hopeful it will shed some light.
-
@zalarazkhan Well I'm not particularly interested in getting a colonoscopy. Also, consider that the dysfunction is occurring further up in my GI primarily. I get a little bit of bloating later on, but it is very minimal, compared to the constant reflux. I guess an endoscopy would be more relevant, but again, I'm not really interested. It's my understanding that those basically just look for structural anomalies, and are likely to be pointless. But I'm open to being convinced otherwise.
I'm currently taking a course of rifaximin at the upper end of the usually prescribed dosage (550mg x 3), and nothing is happening unfortunately. I'm nearing the end of the 2 weeks. Also tried a higher dose course of doxy + erythromycin just a month ago approximately.
I can try the liqor.

Ah sounds good. If you believe the sibo has entered your stomach, I have heard that antibiotic/antimicrobial treatments are much more effective for this if taking at the same time as an acid neutralizer like baking soda. Could be worth a shot taking some liquid antimicrobial herbs at the same time as baking soda for a little while to see if things change -
@jamsey Unfortunately, I'm regularly consuming baking soda already.
For my SIBO breath test, it wasn't until the 90 minute mark that there was a spike in hydrogen. It seems the lactulose was able to get pretty far down my GI tract before it contacted any bacteria. I guess it depends on my transit time. If there was an overgrowth that was in my stomach, I would think the spike in hydrogen would be much quicker.

These symptoms are similar to my own.
Do you have tongue coating?
Also, do you ever eat, feel fine, but then feel too bloated and GERD-y to do anything at all an hour or two later for the rest of the day? -
@User69 Yeah, it's coated.
Hmm, sometimes I will feel ok for the first hour after eating even though there is a ton of belching and mild reflux. But yeah, after the first hour that crumbles completely.
-
@retard Skin is also awful, inflamed, red, dandruff, etc. I guess I just didn't mention because that's a drop in a bucket compared to the physical discomfort
-
@retard If I have a day or multiple days where I have slow digestion, I get terrible acne, often also eczema on my face.
