Hi, I'm a 24M and dealing with worsening hair and skin conditions due to what I believe is a copper deficiency from iron overload based on blood test results, and the fact that I have consumed high-iron foods and not much calcium for the past couple of years leads me to this conclusion.

I'm not able to donate blood atm due to taking finasteride within the past 30 days. So, I was looking for some good alternative ways to lower iron for now.

      Thanks!

@nicemushroom17 Why are you taking finasteride? Get off it immediately!

@risingfire Haha, don't worry, I'm off it. However it actually, worked pretty well for me, but for obvious reasons, I want to solve my problems without it.

@nicemushroom17 Lactoferrin might be worth looking into

Also just wanted to mention that, for athletes, these tests are notoriously wrong. The reason being that, for example, runners pound red blood cells in the bottom of their feet and end up with free high iron in their blood. ("foot-strike hemolysis,") But it cannot be recycled and they often end up anemic.

@zorba990 That’s good to keep in mind.

However, I think I actually have high iron based on the fact that I ate a high iron diet alongside a diet rich in fruit and low in calcium for several years. I’m pretty positive but not 100% if that’s what’s causing me problems though, we’ll see.
