The Eustachian Tube Dysfunction/Tinnitus Thread
-
"Eustachian" only brought up a single result, which wasn't even dedicated to the issue. So I decided to make an official thread about it.
From my cursory investigation on the issue, the eustachian tubes seem to be influenced by a myriad of things, including: Gut health, oral health, breathing, chewing, sleep posture, neck posture, the lymphatic system, co2 retention, swallowing, talking, earwax buildup, inflammation, allergies, stress, and much more. Clearly it's not something a casual learner such as I can fully comprehend by merely reading a few tweets about it.
My left ear is chronically blocked, and the right one closes while sleeping and opens during the day. Interestingly, I recall chewing with the right side of my mouth for most of my adolescence.
Today, I was able forcefully pop the right ear (something which usually occurs at random), by doing the following:
- 3 cups worth of instant coffee in milk with sugar
- 5g eggshell calcium
- 7 Aspirin 325s
- Attempted lymph massage
- Manual ear cleaning (not much wax pulled up)
- 1 large carrot
- 100mg minocycline
- co2 bath.
If anyone else has anecdotes or worthwhile information regarding this issue, I would be grateful to hear it. Thanks!

w.r.t tinnitus in particular:

This was a pretty big influence for me. I don't have any tinnitus that bothers me anymore (I suspect pretty much everyone has some level of tinnitus if they really, really listen for it, it just only comes up if pathological).
tldr: unjam your TMJ joint by protracting the jaw (i.e., place lower teeth right behind upper teeth), if that applies to you. Before doing this I had TMJ dysfunction on my right jaw (popping and displacement while opening), as well as tinnitus in the right ear. Something that seems to take effect over many months, so not a quick fix.

I had blocked ears and tinnitus from neck issues for a month or so, either a pinched nerve or tight muscles or blocked circulation. Neck stretches, exercises and massages helped, but I'm still looking for a permanent cure (I don't have the tinnitus anymore but other issues related to neck tightness). Bad posture immediately makes things worse for me.
