Questions regarding insulin resistance, thyroid medication and gynecomastia
-
I am a 18 year old male and I have pubertal gynecomastia. I also have problems with insulin (elevated HOMA IR index) probably because of eating a bad diet during my development. I do have a lot of fat storage despite the fact that i'm rather slim. I'm also hypothyroid since my TSH is 3 but my estrogen, testosterone, prolactin and cortisol are in the normal range according to mainstream medical advice (maybe not ideal by bioenergetic standards but i doubt that they are the causes), so my question is: Could the formation of the breast tissue be driven by hypothyroidism and bad insulin sensitivity? This an endocrinologist point of view and I would like to verify that. Can the gyno be reversed ny solving these issues?
I'm looking for peaty supplements and medications that target insulin sensitivity (apart from aspirin, of course), I've been prescribed metformin by an endocrinologist who looked at my blood work and I would reconsider taking a better alternative.
I have also heard accounts of people taking T4 or T3 reporting that their gynecomastia got worse. What is the mechanism behind this phenomenon and should i be afraid of this if I start supplementing with cynomel or cynoplus?

@peatolish I think the true reason behind gyno is not 100% clear some say the main driver is prolactin others estrogen etc. But I think If we look at like ray did, its all connected and comes down to metabolic dysfunctions. Def your hypo and insulin resistance could attribute to that. Also some have normal estrogen levels but there are like 3 estrogens you must check before on the safe side. E1, E2 & E3 But if you have a good look at your bodycomposition, your skin, body hair in unusual areas, your mood you def need no blood test to see if your estrogen driven. Before taking Metformin I would consider other things like niacinamide, magnesium, cardenosine, inosine def pyrucet etc. You'll find many threads on RPF about it or you can look into podcasts / videos from haidut or peat. I never heard about thyroid issues with gyno but I would not be afraid in your case. all fat solubles A D E K are also used for gyno, for example in japan I think the official treatment for gyno is A & K topically IIRC.
