IPAM or indolepropionamide was shown to increase the lifespan of rotifiers by 300%, along with increasing offspring production by 3.4 count, and body size by 1.5 in studies.

A Novel Endogenous Indole Protects Rodent Mitochondria and Extends Rotifer Lifespan

IPAM is structurally similar to melatonin, and found endogenously in mammals. Serves mainly as a mitochondrial anti-oxidant. Shown in studies to increase Complex I and Complex IV in the mitochondrial ETC. Acts as a recyclable electron and proton carrier, enabling a proton gradient that drives mitochondrial ATP synthesis. It acts as a metabolic stabilizer, reducing the amount of reactive oxygen species and protects the mitochondria.

The only large study done on the compound is the 2010 study linked above, tested on rotifiers (very small fish). The 300% lifespan increase is very profound and would be an estimated 150% if tested on mice, although this hasn’t been done yet.

Perhaps @haidut could source and give to some of his lab rats, as this could be a very strong metabolic protecting longevity drug in humans.

So it works better on rotifers but would presumably be less effective on mammals? I always knew knew being spineless, cold-blooded, and ciliated would pan out well for me.

The researchers in the linked study added that in the species of rotifier they tested on, IPAM caused the single greatest lifespan increase of any molecule tested in any study.

Obviously the equivalent dosage will likely not cause as potent effects in humans. However, it is an endogenous compound and quite small so it could be taken in larger doses at a small cost. Without as much concern for safety a synthetic drug would cause.
