Lowering cortisol
-
I have high cortisol, I suppose, since I have some extra abdominal fat around the waist. I am not eating excess calories, but I guess due to the cortisol my waist is not getting slimmer. Going on a diet (restricting calories, skipping meals, etc.) is probably a bad idea. I know that I have read in the past that lowering cortisol would resolve this. However, I am not clear on how to do this exactly. How to lower cortisol without buying prescription medicine?

Peatbot.com: To naturally lower cortisol, consider the following approaches based on the provided context:
-
Exercise: Engage in physical activities that use your muscles effectively. Activities like cutting wood, stacking it, or using dumbbells can be beneficial. These exercises help in muscle growth and can reduce stress.
-
Outdoor Activities: Spend time outdoors in nature and get plenty of sunshine. This can be a significant lifestyle factor in reducing stress.
-
Diet and Nutrition:
-
Maintain a high ratio of calcium to phosphate in your diet for a relaxing anti-stress effect.
-
Ensure stable blood sugar levels, as they are powerful anti-stressors.
-
Consider consuming raw carrots or bamboo shoots, which are antiseptic and help keep the intestine clean, reducing stress-related toxins.
- Supplements:
-
Pregnenolone, progesterone, and DHEA can act as anti-stress buffer hormones.
-
Consider fruit chemicals similar to aspirin, such as those found in oranges, which have protective effects.
-
Mindful Activities: Engage in activities that interest you, such as playing a musical instrument or painting, to reduce stress.
-
Relaxation Techniques: Take time to relax, such as lying on a blanket outside and watching the clouds, to reduce stress levels.
-
Dietary Additions:
-
Add apple cider vinegar or lemon/lime juice to raw grated carrots with salt and coconut or olive oil for an antimicrobial effect.
-
Use salt and sugar to lower adrenaline, which can indirectly reduce cortisol levels.
These methods can help in managing stress and lowering cortisol levels naturally.

@cdwg I tried cypro but I am not sure I felt any change...plus a lot of weight gain around the abdomen making me skinny fat

After quitting an antidepressant I had horrible nighttime terrors and crippling anxiety similar to what I read about on Cushing's Disease forums. (Cushings is related to runaway cortisol. ) I got 100% relief with emodin.
Emodin is a cortisol blocker.
Lapodin is Haidut's product containing emodin:
http://www.idealabsdc.com/If you are having cortisol problems, you are probably having problems with all of the "stress hormones," listed below with treatment:
- Cortisol - emodin (idealabsdc.com)
- Adrenaline - beta blocker (script)
- Serotonin - Pepcid (otc)
- Estrogen - (?)
- Histamine - antihistamine

@PunkinEater thanks a lot
-
@tubert Lemme know if you try it and get relief.
CORRECTION: Emodin inhibits the enzyme that produces cortisol. So, I guess it's not technically a "cortisol blocker."
-
@PunkinEater ok, I don't have emodin, just cascara which has emodin in it apparantly. I have been using a 1/4 tsp of it beofre bed these last 3 nights. So far nothing to report. We'll see
-
@tubert If the cascara doesn't do anything, consider ordering the Lapodin from Georgi.
-
@PunkinEater I will...but I am trying to avoid as the shipping cost to Europe is quite high, plus the danger of paying outrageous customs and administrative fees
