do you have higher or lower thiamine requirements whilst euthyroid to achieve symptom relief?

i don't see much talked about this, since having adequate levels of thiamine & thyroid can be the difference of me laying in bed all day and feeling horrible or studying for 12 hours with significant ease

I find that when I stop taking thyroid hormone I can take 500-1000mg of benfotiamine / ttfd and nothing will happen. But when i take full replacement thyroid hormone doses, i can't tolerate more than 150mgs of ttfd/benfo at once without experiencing some form of hypoxia (unable to catch my breath) until i eat alot of carbohydrate or take more thyroid to use up the circulating thiamine faster. thiamine deficiency and hypothyroidism have identical symptoms while oxidative phosphorylation requires and uses thiamine and thyroid. it seems like how much thyroid you have determines how you respond to vitamins minerals and calories. thiamine sufficiency while taking thyroid hormone is the difference of me sleeping 12 hours and laying in bed for another 3, or sleeping 8 hours without an alarm and waking up refreshed

ray peat said a perfectly healthy person makes 4mcg of t3 every hour from t3 production and t4->t3 conv

      i take a half of a cynoplus every 4 hours, 240 mcg t4 60mcg t3 total
      50mg benfotiamine 4x daily
      50mg ttfd 4x daily
      25mg riboflavin 4x daily
      50mg niacinamide
      25mg b5
      10mg p5p
      400mcg methylfolate
      400mcg methyl b12
150,000 IUs of vitamin A (thyroid determines vitamin A reqs and i get acne unless i take this dose)
      20,000 IUs of d3
      2mg K2
      30mg zinc
      1mg copper
      1200mg magnesium
      3 grams TMG
      10 grams creatine
      4 egg yolks

Prior to thyroid supplementation (standardized NDT—WP Thyroid and Armour), I was hypoglycemic and during episodes would suffer adrenaline surges (a racing heart, shortness of breath etc.), leading to convulsions and syncope, and thiamine exacerbated them, however, with thyroid (and the right diet), thiamine and most other supplements have no effect on me and I find I don’t need them. Thyroid, vitamin D3 in winter, and a high quality diet with adequate energy intake have been enough for me to maintain my health.

@Jennifer what forms and dosages of thiamine were you taking? my point was i experienced hypoxia in deficiency and in severe overdoses relative to my thyroid intake. which made me realize i have to take a very specific dose of thiamine alongside thyroid hormone to not get deficiency or an excess

@beriberi, your point wasn’t lost on me. You were clear in your initial post. 🙂 The forms of thiamine I tried were HCl and TTFD. It was years ago but if I recall correctly, the dosages were 500 mg for the HCl and 100 mg for the TTFD.

@Jennifer well it is interesting you don't need thiamine on NDT, do you know for sure if there is any t3 in your NDT? i tried x4 130mg forefront NDT pills daily for a week and i felt a little different from roughly the same equivalent dose of cynoplus, where supposedly 65mg of NDT is 9mcg t3 and 37mcg t4.

@beriberi, there is T3 in my NDT, yes. It’s a standardized NDT (Armour) prescribed by my doctor and I get routine testing (every 3 months). Like most over-the-counter thyroid glandulards sold as supplements, at least those in the US, forefront’s NDT isn’t standardized so you don’t know what you’re getting for hormones from batch to batch, and if you noticed they have a note on the product page stating that it is intended as a dietary supplement. It’s like the thyroid supplement I tried back in 2019 from Professional Formulas. It has the same ingredients, the same bovine thyroid sourced from New Zealand etc. It was better than taking no thyroid at all when I was having daily convulsions and syncope, but it doesn’t compare to standardized NDT or synthetic thyroid like Cynoplus, IME. Not to trash their product, but one could get the same effect from broth made from fish heads or chicken necks with the thyroid glands intact as they do otc thyroid supplements, and for much cheaper.
