I was on low/moderate dose of Vyvanse during college. At first, it felt like a wonder drug: I could study longer, focus better, had improved mood. But after a year or so I started to get some pretty nasty side effects like mood swings and loss of appetite.
Often times I would go all day without eating and the binge on food in the evening. After I graduated, I started to taper my dose down, but I continued to develop new side effects like cold hands and feet. Despite all of the side effects, I was worried that quitting Vyvanse would mean I wouldn’t have energy or be able to focus any longer so I kept taking in.
In 2020, I started listening to the Generative Energy podcast while doing research related to thyroid. I ended up diving into Peat’s work and for a period of time I was doing a Peat diet and taking Vyvanse. While I felt some benefits from implementing some Peat principles, the side effects remained. After a few months I decided to quit Vyvanse cold turkey and never looked back.
For me, good nutrition and health practices have worked 10x better than Vyvanse or any other pharmaceutical.
