Is being a virgin peaty?
-
@Pulastye Only if you are a truecel.

I've often thought of porn/sex addiction in Peaty terms. Peat said he didn't know anything about porn addiction in an interview once but I see it as coming from stress and an excess of estrogen or cortisol.
-
@VehmicJuryman That checks out. When you are high in estrogen you are constantly stressed over the fact that you are weak and cant reproduce. So any "opportunity" that comes around will make you think of doing it. Thats why people fall for "thirst traps" or can look at a hot woman without feeling the need to jack of. Thats basically it.

if your body is stressed out, wouldn't it do what it could to stop you from reproducing since procreation is pretty energy intensive? not that im pro fap/pro porn, just curious.
as a woman, being in a high stress state shuts down our reproductive system so i'd imagine something similar happens with men?

I was too lazy to properly explain.

I think this is woman dependent. Knew a girl who was so thin that she didnt even menstruate. In that case the body does shut down from stress.
On the other hand a girl who is chubby and high in estrogen probably would be horny all the time but the basic reproductive functions would still work.again my bad.

@Kilgore ooh okay, thanks for the explanation!

@pseudomonkey I remember reading about how during The Troubles the traditionally chaste religious people of Northern Ireland became more promiscuous. Also Peat observed that stress from PUFAs causes puberty to happen earlier. It makes sense to me that chronic stress would make an organism desperate to reproduce as soon as possible before death.

I think it might be an actual difference between women and men. For a woman, reproduction is a costly, long process. It does make sense to shut it down when the body feels it lacks resources to support a pregnancy.
But for men, reproduction is cheap - just a bit of protein and a few minutes' time. Thus it would make evolutionary sense for a man to become hypersexual under stress - if I'm going to die or become disabled soon, I need to impregnate someone right now and I cannot afford to be selective in my partner choice.

@DonkeyDude Interesting take, but I think it's more complicated. As said above:

It is not just PUFA stress that causes early onset of puberty but general environmental stress. I've read that some aristocrats in the past or normal folk leaving high above sea level would go through puberty in late teens or even early 20s. Nowadays, people have been going through puberty earlier and earlier as decadence progresses in the West and thus general stress levels.
So, my take is that, individually, lower levels of stress induce promiscuity (but not necessarily fertility) in both genders but after certain threshold, which is lower for females, it shuts down reproductive systems. On the other hand, generationally, stress causes earlier puberty and higher promiscuity indiscriminately.

I do think so too. I specifically wanted to address the difference in male vs female ability to entirely shut down the reproductive system. In many agricultural societies it was normal for women to menstruate only couple of months a year; amenorrhea also happens nowadays to female athletes, soldiers etc. It seems the female body has a built-in governor to shut down reproduction not only as a response to extreme, debilitating stress, but as a matter of course whenever circumstances seem not to support pregnancy. In contrast, men have no such binary control system: sure, stress can reduce sperm quality or whatnot, but there's no way to just turn the procreative ability off, no set of circumstances that will make men just not produce any sperm at all.

Being the right kind of virgin (for the right reasons, aligned with what one values, etc) would be peaty. This implies ofc not reppressing, not seeing oneself as deprived, and at most a lowish-moderate amount of masturbation.
Being at constant war with oneself is definitely not very prometabolic. "Giving up" completely and succumbing and being led by every desire is more of the same.
