Sudden lactose intolerance, need help.
-
I’ve been consuming dairy and milk regularly ever since I was born really. It has always stayed a staple in my household and I’ve never noticed any issues with digesting milk or ice cream or cheese for that matter. For the last year or so, I was eating quite poorly with little to no milk in my diet and after discovering Peat about 3-4 months ago I started reintroducing milk into my diet. At first I had no problems drinking a litre of milk at a time and I would usually drink about 3 such quantities throughout the day. The issues arose recently when I’ve started drinking milk again after a period where I found myself in a situation where I was forced to eat goyslop from shitty restaurants and such almost everyday for 2 or 3 weeks and I would constantly get issues like diarrhoea and bloating throughout that whole ordeal. For the past two weeks I’ve been able to fix my shit and have faced issues whenever I’ve had milk, primarily diarrhoea, weird stomach rumbles or gurgles that I’ve never had before, gas and sometimes bloating. Weirdest part is that I recently had about half a kilo of vanilla ice cream and had no issues with it. I also had cereals 2 days ago with a litre of milk which I had no issues with as well. I seem to only have problems with a litre of milk by itself. I seem to digest 500ml of milk quite easily as well and tried 750ml with no issues too but anytime I drink a litre in one sitting by itself I get diarrhoea after a few hours. I genuinely fucking hate this since I love drinking milk so much and my diet feels incomplete without it. Seriously confused and no idea what’s the problem here. Help would be appreciated. A bit of a genetic background - I’m NW Indian (jaat) and no one else in my family has lactose intolerance. Apologies if there are any inconsistencies grammatically in the post.

Hi,
You're not going to appreciate my proposal:
Listen to your body, at least timely / temporally or you won't be able to drink milk any longer. Your immune system is going to mark it as an intruder.
No matter why at the moment.
If your digestion is insufficient we can make suppositions.
The amount of lactase enzyme is temporally insufficient. Probably not the case, with a short delay. But the conditions (Ph) and the context have changed (flatulencies).
Perhaps you were able to drink a kind of milk from a region (type A ><B), if you've changed.
Too much liquid makes it harder to digest proteins too. These ones require a acid milieu.
There are other reasons. (...)
If you have gas, you may suffer from dysbiosis (fermentation). Not the adequate flora.
When giving too much of a kind of macronutrient, you change the balance in the microflora.Diarrhea is a way to avoid what doesn't suit to the situation. irritation or inflammation.
No matter why. Try to avoid 2 or 3 days long in order to recover a normal transit.
Then take time to adapt, progressively.
And don't tell me you were able to eat so and how much before the crisis.
Not very clever as argument. Adapt to the new situation or you'll be "punished" like a child who doesn't want to listen to one's parent, who doesn't see farther than the corner of his nose.
Sorry to say it so, but it has to be put forward.
Take care of you and learn to listen to your body signals before it's too late. -
@LucH So a bit of an update, I have stopped my milk consumption for now until my body feels healthy enough and then introduce it progressively since I suspect my body probably needs a positive feedback from slight increases in milk intake for sufficient lactase enzyme production, still only an assumption and admittedly I need to read a fair bit of literature regarding peat. I seem to feel better but I have no idea on what to eat atm since I rarely find myself eating meat when I’m staying home (not allowed to bring meat inside the household, eggs are ok) and I am currently just eating paneer, few carrots with ghee, some bread (will stop once I introduce milk again), orange juice, and small quantities of yogurt. Not ideal.
Perhaps you were able to drink a kind of milk from a region (type A ><B), if you've changed.
Unlikely, since I’ve been consuming the same milk from the same brand here for the last few years. I did grow up drinking raw milk and my body seems to do better with buffalo milk.
Too much liquid makes it harder to digest proteins too. These ones require a acid milieu.
Interesting, definitely will look into it considering only “solids(?)” I was consuming were carrots and sometimes eggs.

Could this be from a sudden increase in sugar? I did sugarmaxx like a retard. I have a feeling that I might have nuked my metabolism drinking a shit ton of diet coke before discovering peat. Replaced that with normal refined sugar and a coke here and there. Will look into that as well.

That’s the plan for now, hopefully it works out.
The diarrhoea seems to be going away but there’s some hints of irritation whenever I consume food.

yes, but you have to understand this point:
- Too much / too frequent of one thing is going to impact the kind of predominant bacteria. So, what was well balanced is going to change.
- excess refined sugar is going to deplete thiamin. Interaction between B1 B2 B3 and B8. Brown sugar cane is a misfit. Not really complete. Muscovado is better but the taste is different. I Have 3 kinds of sugar at home:
=> muscovado, coconut sugar, brown cane sugar.
- occasionally sugar beet (white sugar) for pastry / cakes, and pure Via (a mix with stevia and erythritol). Note that all polyols have a bad impact on microflora and help fermentation if repeated use. But this one is the least negative.
- if you eat manufactured food (not the whole element found in nature, completely processed), you eat on a devitalized way. Lacks are repeated.
Note: Don't take a B50 supplement on a regular basis. Not the right posology: cancer growth stimulation). RDI or uptake above 90 mg B1 HCL. I take 100 mg B1. Need to be developed elsewhere. - Diet coke contains edulcorates. Impact on the microbiota. Like every kind of drink with edulcorates.
- When taking repeatedly the same foodstuff, you must know / study the possible side effects.
Suggestion:
Use collagen powder for half of your protein if you have problem, if you can't manage with bone broth.
Too often eggs could give an immune response. OK for 2 or 3 times 2 eggs.
You could mix lentils or peas with rice to get a full spectrum of amino acids.
