This is one of the few studies that I have seen pointing directly at elevated endotoxin/LPS as a direct cause of Alzheimer Disease (AD). Just as importantly, the study suggests that eating sufficient amounts of insoluble fiber may be a viable approach to preventing/treating AD due to the known effect of said fiber in reducing both endotoxin/LPS production as well as its absorption into the blood from the gut. While the study did not mention it directly, other approaches to lowering the endotoxin/LPS burden such as activated charcoal or antibiotics, may also be viable approached to AD, with the added convenience of increased portability and very long shelf-life. Still, the naturalness of eating foods high in insoluble fiber such as a carrot salad (which Ray himself recommended widely, and recently even became viral on social media), as well as the added health benefits of foods such as carrots, probably make that a primary option/approach for most people.

    https://www.thebrighterside.news/health/major-new-study-finds-gut-health-is-critical-to-the-prevention-and-cure-of-alzheimers-disease/

“…At the heart of the discovery is a molecule teeming with a virulent microbial-generated neurotoxin. Named lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and sourced from the Gram-negative bacteria Bacteroides fragilis found in our gastrointestinal (GI) tract, the specific neurotoxin in question is identified as BF-LPS. Dr. Lukiw expounds, “LPSs, in a broader sense, rank amongst the most potent microbial-derived pro-inflammatory neurotoxic glycolipids we know of.” He continues, “Various laboratories around the globe, ours included, have pinpointed diverse LPS variants within neurons in the brains affected by Alzheimer’s.” To elucidate, the research meticulously maps out the journey of BF-LPS from the gut to the brain and its subsequent effects. The pathway is as follows: BF-LPS seeps out of the GI tract, bypasses the blood-brain barrier using the circulatory system, and then infiltrates various brain compartments.”

“…Its presence there induces inflammation within the brain cells and hinders the neurofilament light (NF-L) — a crucial protein that maintains cell stability. A depletion in NF-L can cause severe neuronal cell atrophy, resulting in eventual cell death, a phenomenon prominently seen in AD-affected neurons. However, all is not lost. The research also uncovers a glimmer of hope — the entire process can be potentially thwarted with sufficient dietary fiber intake. What sets this discovery apart are its three innovative aspects. Firstly, the AD-triggering pathway originates within our own bodies, specifically in our GI-tract microbiome, making it active and inherent throughout our existence. Secondly, the perilous neurotoxin, BF-LPS, is an organic outcome of our GI-tract’s microbial metabolic processes. Lastly, controlling the abundance of Bacteroides fragilis in our microbiome, the neurotoxin’s primary source, is achievable through our fiber intake. Lukiw simplifies this: “From a dietary standpoint, balancing the microbial inhabitants of our microbiome can effectively regulate AD-related microbes and their potential to release neurotoxins like BF-LPS.”

Does anyone have any other suggestions for lowering LPS beside carrot salad? I use citrus pectin.

Suppression of endotoxin-induced proinflammatory responses by citrus pectin through blocking LPS signaling pathways (2006)

      Marmalade will work too.
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marmalade

I have activated charcoal and I may restart taking that 2-3 times a week.

A first thank you Haidut, even he won’t probably read my comment: automatic transfer from his site:

"Endotoxin/LPS causes Alzheimer’s, insoluble fiber (carrot salad?) may prevent/treat"
Comment 1 (LucH): apart from treating cancer with a specific kind of pectin (molecular and Q), I wouldn't count on it much, but as a moderate adjuvant. Useful but limited when you eat an orange or a grapefruit. By the way, be careful of the impact of grapefruit naringin on the kidneys' evacuation path Cyp450. Only one grapefruit per week. The fruit OK, not a glass of fruit juice.
Comment 2: carrot salad, yes, but only once a day (chelation) as prevention middle. Unless you’re overloaded (crisis or in detox period.
My receipt: 2 carrots, one apple and bio cider vinegar. When I want to chelate, I’d add some olive oil
        (2 tbsp). Explanation following.
In short: SFA > MUFA > PUFA. Progressive level of efficiency for carrying LPS endotoxins.
I won’t take coconut oil at the beginning of the process because of its virucidal power. Only when under control.
Remind 1: When taking antibiotics or essential oils, you’re killing some bacteria, adding LPS toxins in the blood circulation.
Remind 2: DT3 is often a cause of Alzheimer’s (blood glycemia management).
Remind 3: Cascara taking when having bowel transit problem (laziness) is not a good idea if it must be repeated. Too aggressive for weak / sensitive mucosa of the stomach, as I often hear …
        Cascara sagrada (Rhamnus purshiana)
Laxative properties. For short-term use: The duration of treatment should not exceed 10 days. If symptoms persist after 4 days, change the tactics. See a medical practitioner 😉 or anticipate the problem if recurrent. See MMC (postprandial peristalsis) + add some fibbers in your menus (30 g/d).
        Process
Cascara sagrada is primarily used to treat constipation. The anthraquinones contained in the bark inhibit the absorption of water and electrolytes in the intestines. As a result, stool volume increases as it absorbs excess water, increasing pressure in the intestine. This stimulates muscle contractions in the colon (peristalsis), which accelerates bowel emptying.
Useful information on cascara (in French, translator needed):

Organic cascara is not only delicious, but it is also, according to this link:

        1. Packed with antioxidants (twice as many as common green tea!)
        2. Rich in potassium (more than a banana!)
        3. Enough naturally energizing caffeine to kick-start your day, but not as much as coffee.

          @DavidPS
How relevant are these elements to facilitate the elimination of LPS endotoxins after taking antibiotics or chemotherapy?

          • Glycine
          • Vitamin E (mix tocotrienols and tocopherols). 2x/wk. 3x when in crisis. If 400 UI. Too much of a good thing is bad (quinones).
          • Vitamin D : No more than 2 000 UI if not associated with other liposoluble vitamins A K2.
          • Orange juice if you manage glycemia well. Otherwise limit it to 100 ml and go for a 20' walk to burn carbs.
          • Supply of fatty acids to transport endotoxins (via cholesterol)
          • A shake with lemon juice, a big slice of ginger (1 or 2 cm) + one softgel of curcumin.

Warning: Increased production of LPS residue after taking antibiotics or Phage Complete. Avoid eating fatty foods during the attack phase. A diet high in fat can make it easier for LPS to pass through the intestinal wall. Certain fatty acids actually serve as conveyors, especially the most unsaturated ones. In the event of a significant die-off, it will be advisable to take the antibiotic (or another virucidal substance) away from the meal. Therefore an inter-digestive intake is advised.

@LucH - Thanks again for sharing all of the detailed information from your forum. It is a great resource.

@LucH said in Endotoxin/LPS causes Alzheimer’s, insoluble fiber (carrot salad?) may prevent/treat:

              Every little bit helps.

I consider endotoxins to be an issue with aging and I have not thought about it much beyond that. There are no antibiotics or chemotherapy on my horizon.
