I want to receive what you know about brain thiamine levels, how to optimize it with thiamine supplementation and other elements/factors that affect it.

I personally found high dose thiamine hcl to be the best way to go for me because I have mercury poisoning which caused high oxidative stress in me which caused my glutathione level to be very low.

Many experts recommend TTFD thiamine to be the best for getting into the brain. However, because my glutathione level was low, TTFD gave me a bad headache that lasted 36 hours. However, many people, including my husband, are able to take TTFD without any difficulty.

Many experts say that thiamine hcl does not cross the blood/brain barrier. However, Dr. Costantini, who successfully treated thousands of Parkinson's Disease patients in Italy, said that thiamine hcl gets into the brain just fine so long as the body is flooded with enough of it. I recovered my brain function by using thiamine hcl in high doses. I take 1 gram of it, 2Xday.

I did not have any negative reaction to thiamine hcl, except when I tried taking 2.5grams in one day (instead of 2 grams). That night, I experienced shooting electrical zapping pains in my thighs when I went to bed. So I lowered the dose back to the 2 grams/day. I did spend 4 months slowly increasing my dose of thiamine hcl from 300-350mgs/day up to 2 grams/day, always divided into two doses, one mid morning, one mid afternoon, taken with plain water and at least 30 minutes from consuming any food/juice.

        links:
        Dr. Costantini
Dr. Costantini's protocol (the dose amount is based on the patient's weight)

I also take magnesium glycinate, plus some niacinamide and also some riboflavin in addition to the thiamine. Dr. Costantini preferred his patients to stop taking all other supplements for several weeks in the beginning of treatment so that he could ascertain that the improvements seen were from the thiamine itself. Elliot Overton provides more information about the additional supplements that may prove beneficial.
