Recovering from Bulimia need advice
-
Hi Everyone,
I got into peating a few years ago. As a college student I have been pretty on and off with it. I am beginning to purchase groceries and trying to live a healthier lifestyle and have since stopped vomiting so often. However, for a multiple years growing up I threw up multiple times a week, sometimes multiple times a day and I want to try and help repair my health. Obviously time will help heal my body but I was wondering if there are certain foods and/or supplements I should take to help maintain my health. I also plan to quit smoking soon since my throat is often sore and I am worried that combined with my past as a bulimic will result in a destroyed esophagus.

@HoldenCox take cyproheptadine, low dose tianeptine and then some anti emetics (even ginger could prolly help)

@HoldenCox I hope this information helps you when you quit smoking! https://constantinek.substack.com/p/addictions-substance-abuse-and-withdrawals

Forgive me for being blunt, but are you mentally ill? If you have severe anxiety/neurosis, then maybe tailor your diet toward lowering stress and increasing dopamine. Sugar obviously, B vitamins, sunlight, adequate sleep, T3 would all help I think

I was mentally ill in the past, I have since recovered. Red light, sugar, and plenty of sleep have helped me but above all my personal life has improved a great deal so things just kind of worked themselves out. I do need to get more sunlight and will probably start supplementing Vit B.
Is it safe to supplement T3 in your 20s? I've been wary with taking things like Progesterone and T3 because I do not want to develop a tolerance at a young age.

Good to hear that. I am not aware of any issues developing a "tolerance" for thyroid, especially not if you are deficient as most people are. It would be worth doing research on the specific symptoms and measuring pulse and heartbeat, as well as dosage. Theres tonnes of literature posted on rpf, peat twitter and here. Supplementing progesterone is safe. Thyroid function improves after supplementation and I think you can safely start weaning yourself off high doses after just a few weeks. Very much worth investigating imo. -
I think things like food depend a lot on the person, in general I think the best thing would be to focus on foods that are nutritious and easy for you to digest. In my case, I like milk and I always drink it in large quantities, especially when I'm feeling unwell and don't want to eat anything "heavy"

@HoldenCox I discovered Peat 15 years ago after having an eating disorder for almost 15 years (I googled around because I had noticed how much brighter my skin looked after eating a chocolate bar - yes, sugar helps when you are malnourished!). I registered just to answer your question. I would encourage you to stay away from DIY medication for the time being because it takes a much deeper understanding than you will get from posting a forum question. I think choosing very nutrient dense foods helps the body avoid a binge/purge cycle because your body senses it is getting the nutrients it needs. I like putting raw egg yolks in berry-yogurt smoothies. Start there before messing around with supplements and medications, and do your reading if you want to try anything like that. You also have to be willing to let go of maintaining a certain weight. Hope this helps!

Bulimia points to thiamine deficiency. Look into thiamine in general.
