Forum reformatting

This forum is difficult to navigate. Can't you use a traditional forum format?
The current format is not only a headache but it's also ugly tbh.
I still prefer to browse old rpf posts at the moment because of these limitations.

Give this a try if you're feeling adventurous. It can add borders, which is often enough for "user acceptance" in an unbounded UI like this.

It's hard to get this right so cut the overlords some slack while your brain adjusts. You'll never please everyone with a GUI.

it took some getting used to on my end. like yourself i prefer the traditional board format from the early web 2.0 days.
for some reason, a lot of people are put off by the old style of boards, i have to conclude many people are viewing from a phone hence the modern format is more palatable.
i donät blame brad for electing to use a more modern board format despite my preference and nostalgia for something like the traditional xenforo/phpbb/smf/mybb. probably jarring at first for those of us who have used boards for decades but for people who have no preference either way its maybe ideal.
i think he will improve it with time. if you go to the official forum for the particular forum software being used here, its 100x more jarring and difficult to read so there has already been a good effort to make it more digestible. unfortunately one of the downsides of using an older or less maintained forum software is probably a lot of latent security vulnerabilities, using the latest and greatest is probably partly done to avoid the problems that come with "less maintained" board software.

@brad Is there a reason why only signed up members can search the content of the forum? If someone who has created a lot of content gets banned they won’t be able to search their content. I’m thinking ahead, just in case. Not that I am suggesting you are going to turn into a genocidal authoritarian moderator

@Peatly No reason, it was just the default setting. I've made it possible for guests to search the forum now.

@brad i kinda liked the bigger avatars with their own dedicated section next to post on the old forum , i think that really added to the vibe of the place idk if that would be applicable here though.. the similiar posts section after every thread was also really helpful but considering how new this forum is it would be kinda useless for now

I still hate it, and I'm still not quite sure why.
