Horrific Nausea from Seizure Medication
-
A friend of mine was recently prescribed a medication called Keppra (Levetiracetam) to deal with seizures. As a result, she started experiencing mood swings, and more importantly, terrible nausea and headaches whenever eating anything, leading her to sometimes go days without eating, and almost never feeling hungry.
I recommended progesterone and thyroid, and that's done a lot to elevate her mood, but the nausea symptoms from food persist. Does anyone have any advice?

you can try ginger root
I looked briefly at https://bioenergetic.life/?q=nausea
It mentions cryptoheptadine, scopolamine, and salt and sugar for nausea. -
Thank you. I think cypro ought to be the next avenue to try. I remember when I tried it I would feel ravenous. And then this Ray quote felt applicable. Even though it was directed towards chemo, it seems more like a universal statement towards harsh drugs in general.
"And the nausea, where's the nausea coming from? The stomach, the body just doesn't like these harsh drugs and it's just trying hard to have a hard time dealing with it?"
"Yeah, any kind of injury to the digestive system causes it to produce lots of serotonin
and the serotonin causes the sense of nausea among other things. And so blocking the serotonin will relieve the nausea."So even if cypro isn't a good idea, it seems like anti-serotonin food/substances might be the way to go.

thiamine could be something to try if crypro isn't good. the rationale is that thiamine has a general anti-toxic effect and relationship with serotonin.
thiamine deficiency increases serotonin and thiamine excess, without magnesium, increases serotonin too. so modest physiological doses of 2mg-10mg with or without some magnesium. this would be dosing in line with ray peat's recommendation

@LiamGraves
Lemon essential oil is a good anti-nausea, similar mechanism to ginger. Can be diluted and used topically, or even orally (start with 1 drop to acclimatise and slowly increment the dose as necessary). Peppermint too can potentially help, either as tea or the essential oil used topically over the stomach area. -

I typed the word "Levetiracetam" into the search bar at the Ray Peat forum and came up with these threads and posts:

Personally i would skim over it for useful ideas, a common theme seems to be Magnesium but the form is often important. Wishing your friend the best, and luck for you in your research.
