Pregnenolone and hair loss
-
I recently tried taking some pregnenolone and noticed I would lose a very small portion of body hair (I have tons), something like 2-5%. However, I've also noticed my head hair thinning a little, so I've stopped for fear of going bald.
Could this be due to pregnenolone increasing androgens and these affecting my general body hair? I find it strange because the normal result would be something like increasing body hair and losing head hair, but it seemed like I would lose from both, even if it was a really small amount.I would like to hear ideas about some good ways to lose excess body hair since while not losing head hair, in case someone has any idea. Thanks.

@Zeno what doses were you taking? Have you taken anything besides pregnenolone? what does your diet look like? are you taking T3 + T4? Do you have symptoms of hypothyroidism?
-
@Fructose 50mg daily, although for some time I moved to 100mg but I didn't notice much difference.
The only other thing I take apart from pregnenolone are supplements, mostly magnesium and potasium, and some multivitamins although not much.
I don't have hypothyroidism for what I know and I have a relatively healthy life: I do some light exercise, walk everyday and my diet is relatively healthy:- Fish or meat with salad (with carrots) for lunch together with some fruit such as kiwis, blueberries and things like that.
- Eggs with broccoli, sausages, kéfir for dinner.
- Along the day, sometimes breakfast sometimes as an afternoon snack, I have milk with honey together with a toast of butter and cream cheese.
- For cooking I use extra virgin olive oil (the real one, not fake one. I'm from Spain after all).
There are obviously exceptions to the diet from time to time, mostly from going to eat outside or from celebrations, but nothing too bad.
Still, this hair reduction was very very small. In fact, it was my hair dresser the one that told me my hair was somewhat thinner. I wouldn't have noticed myself otherwise. Same for body hair, the reduction is very small but I did the experiment of shaving some body hair and noticed it would take longer to grow up, even if it was a very small difference.

@Zeno I don't have much personal experience with pregnenolone but I have dealt with male pattern hair loss for years with varying degrees of success. I've also used anabolic steroids off and on over the last decade so I have personal experience with changing hormone levels.
There's a lot of pet theories on hair loss, but personally, I think many see and experience hair loss due to rapid changes in their hormone levels, possibly changes to certain ratios of hormone levels, rather than the absolute levels of hormones, i.e., it's the delta and the ratios that matter, not the total concentrations. This is just based on personal experiences taking a number of hormones and hormone modulating substances over many years.
After stopping for awhile, if you found benefit from pregnenolone and want to try it again, you might try tapering up over a long period of time from lower doses. 10 mg/d for 2-3 weeks. Then 20 mg/d for 2-3 weeks. Then 30 mg/d for 2-3 weeks, etc.

@Zeno My guess is it's suppressing estrogen, which can cause body hair. Not sure what's causing hair on head thinning. Have you tried the topical aspirin baking soda wash?
