My girlfriend has been losing weight despite a healthy full diet. She's very active but deals with a lot of anxiety and restlessness which leads me to suspect she's hyperthyroid. She was taking spironalactone for her skin for a couple years, which many know by now is seriously detrimental to hormone balance. Thankfully she got off it recently but still suffers from anxiety and unintended weight loss.

Does anyone have any tips, food and / or supplement recommendations for this issue? The only catch here is that she can't consume dairy without it messing with her stomach - hard cheeses like parmesan is all she can handle.

Thank you all and have a nice weekend

@raytreats I don’t associate anxiety & restlessness with high thyroid, pretty much the opposite. Has she tried progest-e or carrot salad?

        Good things are immeasurably costly

Usually hypothyroidism results in difficulty losing weight. In that case she should try eating more caloric dense foods, like beef or even candy. For the anxiety, maybe the amygdala is bigger than usual, meditation helps to reduce the size and therefore lower anxiety and fear. I use the wim hof method and can attest to it.

@raytreats Spironolactone can lower testosterone production, so maybe you could suggest for her to get a hormone panel to check. Moment Health Co is a company that will send you a kit to your home and you can do it all without having to see a doctor. It will measure her testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, and cortisol. Then you would not have to guess. 🙂

@raytreats It is different but it seems like you don’t really know what’s wrong with her and are just guessing. So the hormone panel would be a good starting point and could give you some solid direction.

@MB while you’re waiting for the test (and waiting for the right time of her cycle to test), it may be helpful to start a temp/pulse log. Here’s a good guide for that:

Believe it or not, Ray recommended cabbage juice to people who wanted to slow down their thyroid.

people usually feel great when they're in the so called “hyperthyroid” state. It's the reason why I tell the people how to use cabbage juice and such to slow their pulses that their doctors become a danger to them, tending to bully them into having their thyroid gland suppressed

If she is experiencing a lot of anxiety she probably isn't hyperthyroid but again she won't know unless she has a full hormonal panel
