      I wouldn't say Serotonin, it rather blunts emotional response, subdued kind of sadness yes but not crying. No idea what effects estrogen has though.

            Hi @LucyJ, I can’t recall if you’ve mentioned this, but do you have a history of hypoglycemia? Prior to treating my thyroid, I had frequent hypoglycemic episodes and random crying spells were my telltale sign that my blood sugar had crashed. Within 15 minutes of having some fruit or juice, I was back to my old (cheerful) self.

              I think I used to but it's hugely improved. It doesn't seem to have before ovulation hence thinking it was estrogen.

                @Peatful interesting. I get serotonin issues form pineapple and bananas and tomatoes. But curious why it would happen second half of cycle only.

                  @pittybitty I wonder if that's different for different people as I cry sooo easily and do have serotonin issues?! I have histamine issues too though

                    @Peatful Reading what you've posted I wonder if I get a Co2 breathing device. I do think I have serotonin issues as ondansetron does help if I'm really anxious and can't sleep. Just wonder why serotonin is still such an issue despite doing a lot of peat stuff and generally feeling better...

                      I’m glad to hear it has improved. Since you mention having unexplained infertility, is your doctor testing your estrogen and prolactin (tissue bound estrogen) levels regularly? That should confirm if the crying is estrogen related, and perhaps your doctor needs to adjust your dose of Prometrium?

                      To confirm if your symptoms are serotonin related, if you haven’t done so already, you could ask your doctor to order a 5-HIAA urine test? Apologies if I’ve already mentioned this, but back when I had digestive issues, depression and anxiety, and told Ray that my whole blood serotonin test result came back low/normal, he responded that "Whole blood serotonin isn't very informative, because it isn't harmful when it's bound in the platelets, and harmful when it's free in the plasma; urine 5-HIAA (a serotonin metabolite) is an easy test."

                        I don’t have a lot of time

                        But
                        I always look at dietary changes first

                        My guess is low blood sugar or difficulty regulating is a part….

                        Big guess because I have basically no data

                        But lmk if you’re eating enough
                        Especially carbs and or sugar

                            @Jennifer I haven't had that test! I will ask my doctor to order it. Yep he has tested my estorgen and prolactin. Prolactin in range (even by peat standards), estrogen slightly high

                              I do struggle with a lack of appetite and trying to eat enough each day. I am eating a lot more than previously and a lot of fruit juice. Mostly I have to force food down and could easily skip meals.

                              I have a nutritionist who's helped a lot. B vitamins have helped. Currently trying to do higher doses of thiamine (under her direction) as I have pots and dysautonomia type symptoms. Also likely celiac.

                              For context my health feel off the rails post a course of amoxicillin 15 years ago. Majorly underweight and didn't grow normally as a child but no issues with school or sports or socialising. Heart rate consistently low approx 55 bpm.

                              But my gut is my weak link and has been since I was a kid

                                @Peatful listening to this, maybe I was super compliant as a kid because I was high serotonin! (he's talking about people taking lsd being able to think for themselves, serotonin antagonist)

                                  @LucyJ, do you mean you are currently, majorly underweight? And when you say you lack an appetite, is it that you genuinely aren’t hungry or the foods you currently tolerate aren’t that appealing? I ask because there was a point in my health journey when I was having to force down food because the only diet that didn’t have me doubled over in pain was “meh.” I love fruit, but a diet of nothing but fruit, not so much.

                                      @Jennifer no not underweight anymore. Upper body is just a bit thin but lower body normal.
                                      Both, sometimes no appetite but a lot of time just so meh about foods I tolerate and no desire to have eg a smoothie. Any tips on the meh?

                                      I have read you took 3 grains of WP to heal and I do think my pituitary is causing a lot of issues. (the excess serotonin in my gut seems to mess with my pituitary and i get hyper reactions to eg thiamine yesterday)
                                      Currently on 1 grain

                                        Oh, good, @LucyJ. I thought maybe I was mistaken about you being weight restored when we spoke privately. NDT was one of the tools I used to heal, yes. Do you mind listing the foods you currently tolerate? Maybe we can come up with some ideas for tasty meals. For food fatigue, and healing in general, I’m a fan of traditional, low residue meals abundant in all 3 macros and salt, i.e., “comfort food.”

                                          It's seems to vary based on how inflamed my gut is. Today probably only lactose free milk, fruit juice, ox tail broth, skyr yoghurt, fish, meat (I think), eggs, honey.

                                          So I think I'm going to try make custard and jelly with fish gelatin (I don't tolerate beef gelatin) and see if that can get me eating more! Fingers crossed I don't get an endotoxin reaction from fish gelatin.

                                          Do you think ondansetron would be worth trying? The gut irritation is pretty bad at the moment.
