      most potent effect out of 7949 tested compounds

      Researchers screened 7949 natural compounds in human differentiated myotubes to find molecules that increased mitochondrial ATP and oxygen consumption. Hesperetin (a flavanone aglycone derived from hesperidin) was one of the most potent hits in this screen based on dose–response comparisons. At 10 µM in myotubes, hesperetin:Increased intracellular ATP by about 33 %.Increased mitochondrial spare respiratory capacity by about 25 % (Seahorse respirometry).It shifted ATP production toward oxidative phosphorylation (more mitochondrial ATP, less glycolytic ATP) and directly increased oxygen consumption, confirming a mitochondria‑targeted effect.
