Many people think that insomniacs and hyperactive kids have an abundance of energy or even "too much energy". The thought is that all that "energy" is keeping people from being able to sleep or keeping kids from being able to sit still and focus. However, it takes energy to be able to sleep soundly and to be able to sit still learn and concentrate.

These two articles discuss this phenomenon in great deal:

Insomnia: A Paradoxically Low Energy State
It Takes Energy to be Able to Relax and Sleep Soundly

ADHD: A Paradoxically Low Energy State
It Takes Energy to be Able to Sit Still, Concentrate and Learn
