What do you believe causes schizophrenia/psychosis?
-
I was recently looking into the schizophrenic guy Justin Mohn that beheaded his father and made an insane and delusional video about doing so on YouTube and it made ponder what causes schizophrenia, psychosis, and why people go crazy from drug abuse. Many will place the blame on conservatives and try to determine a political reason that caused him to do such a thing but I do not think that was the case. This guy was a hardcore stoner and vegetarian/vegan which makes me question what vitamins are depleted from heavy THC usage and if using THC heavily while eating a bad diet, especially one deficient in b vitamins, pushes someone to a severe b vitamin deficiency to the point of paranoia, auditory and visual hallucinations, mania, and depression. I don't personally know anyone that is schizophrenic and have not done enough research to see if symptoms can be alleviated with good diet but I can certainly see people leaning on to the crazy side using drugs that deplete crucial vitamins for brain health while eating a deficient and inflammatory diet.

Schizophrenia is caused by serotonin, Haidut has written multiple articles on this. If someone was eating a shitty diet while smoking marijuana everyday, they would 100% have high serotonin levels, which in turn can lead to schizophenia.
-
@zipris THC directly increases serotonin btw, inhibits serotonin reuptake just like SSRIs
-
@zipris Changes in serotonin or other neurotransmitters are intermediate steps in the metabolism, meaning that they have no causal agency. Usually a more fundamental issue is accumulation of metals such as copper or mercury. The drug use and veganism OP mentioned will cripple the adrenals and burn through zinc reserves both of which will lead to copper accumulation. The reason high dose B vitamins are sometimes used to treat schizophrenia is that they enable thr metabolism to circumvent the downstream effects of metal toxicity. However since they don't fix the underlying toxicity their use has to be continued indefinitely or the symptoms will come back.

Does anyone know people personally who developed schizophrenia without the usage of cannabis? These things seems to go hand in hand.
Serotonin alone will not cause the development, as I think we can safely assume that more people would have it in our society. There must be other factors in addition to high serotonin. -
@Norwegian-Mugabe I have a cousin that developed schizophrenia in his teenage years with no drug use, however it runs in his side of the family.
-
@Archon sorry to hear that you have these problems in your family. Are you sure that there was no drug use involved, or is it just speculation? Kids start with cannabis before their teenage years these days. Do you know the bloodwork of your family members? Maybe they had some deficiencies? I doubt that it is only due to genetics, but maybe carriers of some genes are more prone in any given environment. I assume no one is recovering from schizophrenia in our society?
-
@Norwegian-Mugabe It may have been from diet, I never saw his bloodwork, but he wasn't vegetarian/vegan and from what I saw followed the standard American diet. I also don't think it was from drugs since he was pretty asocial, he would just stay at home when he wasn't at school.
-
@Archon This is the problem with all modern dieases. Everything is going wrong in the society. How could we know if it was from: diet, vaccines, asocial behaviour, sedentary indoor lifestyle, or poor parenting?
Aren't asocial people more opt to smoke pot?
-
@Norwegian-Mugabe I think schizofrens were being researched by the schizofreuds before common use of marijuana by westerners. but I'm sure most modern schizophrenia has been caused by serotonergic lifestyle/food/weed
-
@AltarandThrone I am sure there was schizophenia in the past, just as there was autism. The thing is that all dieases seems to prolifirate like never before.
I need to point out that weed is a slave drug. The people who use it are unlikable. I have been pondering on buying Hitchens The War We Never Fought, but I have postponed doing so.
-
@Norwegian-Mugabe agreed
-
I'd like to mention the fact that many people are using high THC strains, THC concentrate whether that's dabbing or using dab carts today. Dab carts being the biggest trend which are usually 70 to almost 80% THC and 0.1 to 0.3% CBD. CBD seems to be the most beneficial/anti inflammatory and THC is incredibly psychoactive. One of my most intense (and scary) drug experiences wasn't any psychedelic but too many dabs with a friend. Kept having thought loops, confusion, and anxiety. It was one of the most intense experiences in my life and basically ruined weed for me from then on. Although some people have really high tolerances to THC, I wonder how detrimental it is to be using high dosages of THC with a strong absence of CBD and what it does to the brain.
-
@zipris interesting, the two people i know diagnosed with schizophrenia were both heavy weed smokers, as well as doing lots of hallucinogens and being vegan. Impossible to tell a weed smoker weed isn't all sunshine and rainbows though.

Probably worth noting as well that marijuana has very high levels of heavy metals, absorbs a lot of lead and cadmium from the soil it’s grown in, a high concentration of lead in the bloodstream is found significantly associated with an elevated risk of schizophrenia.
