Broda Barnes (who developed and promoted the basal temperature test) stated that a normal reading upon waking is around 97.8 °F (36.6 °C). According to his book the test is performed by placing a thermometer in the armpit for 10 minutes immediately upon waking.
But ofcourse we know that temperatures can vary wildly between different thermometers and measuring sites: oral, ear, armpit, rectal, forehead etc.

Does someone know how much to subtract from the braun-in ear measurement to arrive at the measurement done with the broda barnes method? It's the tool I use, but I feel like it's showing me higher than 'normal' results

@diamond generally speaking you have to subtract one degree Fahrenheit to arrive at the core temperature. I don't think it's perfect so don't get too frustrated if your ear temperature seems too low from subtracting the degree.
