Do you follow the rule of no coffee past midday?

Dr. Andrew Huberman discusses this in his podcast. He suggests that caffeine should be avoided 8 to 12 hours before bedtime. According to him, drinking a cup of coffee at 2 PM is equivalent to consuming 10% of a cup right before bed. He claims that even if you feel good when you sleep, you still may not reach the REM phases as effectively.

@oliveoil I believe it's entirely dependent on liver function, a healthy, robust liver should be able to metabolize most of the caffeine in about 10 minutes. There are things which inhibit and increase caffeine metabolism as well.
For example, a smoker will have a higher caffeine metabolism due to the acceleration in its demethylation (it also increases xanthine oxidase activity).

Caffeine and the health of the liver in detoxifying (for lack of a better word) caffeine plays s large role in having good sleep, yet there are other factors as well, such as having a stable supply of energy to power sleep, as well a state of calm enabled by GABA and the absence of serotonin in our brsin that disturbs our mental well-being and sleep.

No, not midday. I won't have any coffee after 5 pm. The reason is caffeine's half-life of roughly 6 hours. I want my caffeine concentrations to be rather low towards bedtime. But that can be achieved much later than midday. I still have a cup of coffee around 3:30-4:00 in the afternoon.
