Propranolol, agression & autism
-
Since there is a known issue with autistic children and problems of increased aggression and fight-or-flight susceptibility during puberty, my question is: does anyone have personal experience with propranolol?
It's a well-known, old beta-blocker. According to literature , it is one of the few medicines which directly attenuates aggressive outbursts and lowers the fight-or-flight response. Also used "off-label" for above stated issues.
A concern is bradycardia and hypotension in children. Since only available dosage is 40 mg. Tablet can not be divided.
I know cyproheptadine is useful for lowering serotonin, but it is not available in our region, nor in neighboring countries.
Personal experiences are more welcome than PubMed linking.
Kind regards

alldaychemist does not ship cyproheptadine to your country? they have Best cypro for extremely cheap.

Interesting. Maybe Wakefield was right about the vagus nerve, or a stop on it.
"Propranolol acts by blocking vasodilatory beta 1 receptors and reducing cardiac output. A major side effect of vasopressin therapy is impaired cardiac performance secondary to coronary vasoconstriction and increased work against high arterial pressure."
