Is hot chocolate a good replacement for coffee? Is there anything very notable you would be missing by having chocolate instead of coffee? I mainly drink coffee for the caffeine, magnesium, and to prevent iron excess. If im not mistaken chocolate has all those same benefits.

For example, coffee has more caffeine, some anti-opioid compounds, and a bit different set of antioxidants/polyphenols.
Coffee is also considered as a better booster of DHT.

Regarding nutrition facts, it would be good to make a detailed comparison to see which one suits your needs more...

I like chocolate, but I get a better boost from white coffee.

BTW All depends on your aims.
Coffee may be better for rising metabolism/temperature.
Cocoas may be better just as a nutrient.

You also have to be concerned with your source of chocolate as it will often contain unwanted ingredients and is slowly becoming notorious for being contaminated, at least here in the US. This is based upon my research here, the old forum and elsewhere. Personally i would research the topic before committing to chocolate in high amounts or on a regular basis.

As for coffee quality concerns, i may be wrong but it's likely that sourcing quality coffee at a "decent" price would be easier than chocolate. Once again i suggest due diligence with some extra research.

@Serotoninskeptic, which do you enjoy more? The caffeine in coffee (and black tea) boosts my mood, but so does the enjoyment I get from drinking hot chocolate and brewed cacao nibs.

@BioEclectic I have a good source of both chocolate and coffee which have no additives and minimal contamination. Addictive Wellness for chocolate and Purity coffee. Both are tested for mycotoxin/mold

@Kvirion I already have high temps/metabolism from thyroid. I use coffee for the extra caffeine boost but also enjoy the taste and the comfort if drinking something warm. I might switch between the two depending on my needs

@Jennifer I enjoy chocolate more definitely. Hot cocoa with cream and marshmallows is one of my favorite drinks. Coffee is great too though. In fact a warm cup of coffee with a chocolate bar on the side go great together

@Serotoninskeptic, have you tried adding some instant coffee to your hot chocolate? It really brings out the cocoa’s flavor. And you get the best of both worlds. 🙂
