I had an oligoscan done and zinc is getting at the bottom range. If I was deficient, wouldn’t I be craving meat? And wouldn’t I be cold?

Right now, I feel lethargic and ill. But I’m not cold. And I have skin rashes that pop up sometime. Hair loss too.

The amount of zinc needed daily is relatively small, about 2–3 mg in adults, i.e. only 1/1000 of the total is renewed daily, in agreement with a biological half-life of zinc of about 280 days.
        https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jtemb.2006.01.006
We have to make the difference between a lack of zinc and optimizing the functioning of the immune system.
Note: No zinc supplementation in presence of over-infected tissue (pneumonia, with white nose secretions). Zinc stimulates bacteria activity.

Yo, Can you expend on zinc stimulating bacteria activity?

*) No zinc supplement with lower respiratory symptoms (acute bronchitis)
            https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/common-cold/expert-answers/zinc-for-colds/faq-20057769
Research shows mixed results for zinc and colds. For that reason, zinc can't be recommended to shorten your cold symptoms.
Researchers can't say why zinc works in some studies and not others.

*) No zinc supplement with lower acute respiratory symptoms
            Source: Dr. Jean-Paul Curtay – Immuno-nutrition (book).
La supplémentation doit être suspendue pendant une infection bactérienne (angine, cystite) ou nez-gorge-oreille même virale, car les bactéries utilisent le zinc à leur profit pour se dupliquer.
            Traduction :
Supplementation should be suspended during a bacterial infection (tonsillitis / angina, cystitis) or even a viral nose-throat-ear infection, because bacteria use zinc to their advantage to duplicate themselves.
Note’s editor (LucH): there is no consensus.

            Excerpt (translated)
No zinc or iron supplements in case of viruses or bacteria.
"Zinc supports the immune system, but zinc supplements should not be taken during the flu or a cold, as they could promote bacterial proliferation." (Source: Jean-Paul Curtay, nutritionist).
=> No zinc during a bacterial infection (bacterial superinfection, editor's note: for example, during sinusitis with white excretion, or when a cold turns into superinfected bronchitis).

"Iron is a growth factor for viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites, etc. It therefore promotes all kinds of infections. Iron should never be taken during an infection. It is also a growth factor for cancer cells and contributes to the inflammation that makes tumors more proliferative."

                          @eduardo-crispino

is that even an essential nutrient? Even then, I doubt that could be causing my problems…

@winters2 it regulates copper and zinc and makes a “deficiency” in either less consequential
