      I have to rephrase for you to understand my question.

      Why would statin usage cause endotoxins to increase?

      How does ststin usage cause increase in endotoxins? Another way of asking is to to replace the how with asking what is the mechanism involved.

      You merely accepted without question that stating usage will increase endoroxins. I ask why and how.

        All i have said is that it would unlikely to be coming from any possible antibacterial effect, don't see the need for the patronizing reply.

            I think so too. Stating are antibacterial though they are not marketed to be anything else but a cholesterol lowering drug. Otherwise why would they lead to increasing endotoxins.

                @yerrag , The statin side effects seem quite insidious (!), based on the paper in the OP:

                Due to their lowering the protein prenylation, they possess anti-inflammatory properties, yet due to lowering the same protein, they activate a immune response (via an NLPR3 immunosome), which in its turn may increase the LPS absorption.

                "In general, statins are associated with anti-­inflammatory responses that are related to cardiovascular benefits (49). However, as we and others have shown, statins can generate a specific pro-­inflammatory response by activating the NLRP3 inflammasome (12, 13)."

                Secondly, statins activate the TLR4 receptor, which is a marker of metabolic endotoxemia.

                "We found that statin feeding and LPS injections in mice both alter gut barrier function and metabolic endotoxemia (amount of TLR4 activity in the serum)."

                The statin insidiousness is doubly bad because the LPS and myopathy side effects exist but are not readily observed with a low dose of statins.

                And, extrapolating from the paper (if I may), when a lot of LPS is already in your body, the side effects magnify.

                  Statin's effects thru endotoxemia in lowering glucose metabolism is just as bad when the endotoxemia is caused by the use of antibiotics, be it pharmaceutical or herbal.

                  Lowering glucose metabolism, I recently learned, from using essential oils, as I did, stems from the LPS left behind by bacteria killed by my essential oil therapy. It is enough to impair the conversion of cholesterol to pregnenolone- and downstream hormones and steroids.

                  I saw my cholesterol reach 300 (from my usual 240) recently, as I both gained a lot of weight at the same time I lost libido. I believe endotoxemia impairs the mitochondrial ability to convert cholesterol to pregnenolone, and this likely impaired my testosterone production and levels.

                  Knowing this, I asked myself if there was anyway the body could kill pathogens without so much as relying on its own ROS to oxidize and kill pathogens or the use of exogenous antibiotics to do the same. Both methods produce endotoxins, which are inflammatory and promote oxidative stress, and which would lead to increased blood pressure, as my body uses albumin as an antioxidant, and lowered serum albumin. leads to hypovolemia. Hypovolemia in turn causes high blood pressure as high BP is needed to compensate for the low blood volume (hypovolemia).

                  The answer is in making the body capable of making enough antimicrobial peptides called LL-37 (which is contained in neutrophils (a type of white blood cell) that would consume the pathogens and be excreted, without ever producing endotoxins. With no endotoxins, no albumin needs to be used, and this would increase serum albumin levels enough to increase blood volume to levels where blood pressure need not be increased to compensate for hypovolemia.

                  I'm going into a sidebar now, so I should cut this short.

                  But what is relevant to the thread is endotoxemia is a real problem. In my case, it is why my high blood pressure is persistent.

                    @yerrag yeah, the endotoxemia from statins is a huge problem. How it is caused by statins and in which doses is also important since so many people take statins (!)

                      Endotoxemia is a problem, but it is no more a problem than it is when one uses pharma antibiotics or natural antibiotics in herbs and in essential oils. All cause bacteria to die and the remains are the endotoxins (though we usually only talk about the remains of gram negative bacteria.

                      And the above are only exogenous methods of killing bacteria. Our immune system also kill bacteria and leave behind endotoxins as well. awith the exception of antibacterial peptides (called LL-37) that are in the arsenal of neutrophils and macrophages,

                      But when our vascular and lymphatic system contain a reservoir of pathogenic bacteria that continually require the body or an external treatment to respond defensively, our internal system (vascular and lymphatic) continually produce endotoxins as long as the pathogenic microbial colony continues to survive and even thrive as a colony when we don't give them enough continual attention to make them insignificant.

                      It is the microbial colonies that have staying power that continue to survive as a large colony that cause our immune system to go on an endless and futile process of inflammatory and oxidatively stressful loop that exhausts our body's resources and deprive our body of its ability to stay young and energetic and developmentally integrative.

                        I didn't have a reference. I just remember seeing it while looking into statins in general after my doctor suggested them to me. I have just googled again, and it is really interesting to read that when Akira Endo discovered the first statins, he was specifically screening fungal antimicrobial agents (antibiotics). The first statin compound was isolated from Penicillium citrinum, so here comes the antibacterial connection.

                        I ended up discarding statins for myself. But at a follow-up session just a few days ago, another doctor suggested I try red yeast rice. I'd never heard of it before.

                        But what a coincidence - red yeast rice is mentioned in the very same article about statins I was just reading.

                        The LL-37 peptides, which make neutrophils completely absorb endotoxins, also sound very interesting. That's new to me too.
