I have found that i have slow gastric emptying if i eat liver patee daily, which somehow subsided when started blending 50g chicken liver in my morning smoothie. Also what could cause slow gastric emptying? is this vit a?

      Is raw safe?

@FitnessMikey chicken liver is not that high in vit A. Overall a much better version is beef liver, it is basically the only vit A superfood. Eating raw chicken is also quite risky, not only due to salmonella and other bacterias, but also because they are high in PUFAs. Either way, I would swap chicken for beef.

As for the patee, do you make it yourself or is it from a supermarket? Most patees are made form pork, which is the worst version of liver with the highest concenration of PUFAs, they may also include some other sketchy ingredients.

@zeitgeist i eat chicken, specifically for the folate and some extra b vits.

but it does slow my gastric emptying somehow.

i made patee my self, pure chicken liver with some fat/onions/garlic.

@FitnessMikey not sure if this is a serious question or not, but I'll answer as if it is. Food poisoning. Salmonella, e coli, etc. All killed by simply cooking the meat properly.

Many years ago my digestive system was basically destroyed for about 6 months after a nasty case of food poisoning. There's a reason people cook meat.

@FitnessMikey daily is a lot of liver though, even chicken. Ray Peat mostly talked about liver once a week, and on the radio he said "If you ate liver every day accompanied by orange juice, you would absorb a toxic amount of iron." Is there fruit or juice in that smoothie? Could be worth a week of skipping it to see if the slow stomach thing goes away.

i notice adding liver back to the diet that i might get slight irritation of digestion, it’s barely noticeable and mostly outweighed by the positive effects but i can see how excessive liver eating can be suboptimal

someone posted on rpf or somewhere about retinol being able to activate some gut irritation effect idk
