creatine muscle cramps
-
I keep seeing that "creatine causes muscle cramps" is a myth but whenever I take it, and despite enough hydration, I get absolutely insane muscle cramps even in muscle groups that I didn't train!
Is this a sign of an underlying issue or just an unfortunate side effect?
-
@deliciousowl I had the same experience when I took is as a teen. In retrospect I think it was caused by a salt intake much to low. I would focus on getting enough salt.
-
@NangaParbat If anything I massively oversalt my food, and the creatine supplement itself has salt, so unfortunately that's not it.

You need to quit coffee while on creatine.
I had the same effect as you, quitting coffee and keeping creatine solved the problem. My energy levels are better than ever, far better than when on coffee.

@Santosh I was worried that this was going to be it. Basically my entire life revolves around coffee so I guess it's the creatine that has to go.
I figure that beef collagen/gelatin has all the precursors for the body to produce creatine so I will up my dosage of that instead.
500mg niacinamide has been better for endurance for me than creatine either way to be honest.

Until you quit coffee for two weeks and realize that life is much more beautiful without it.

It looks like hydration and electrolytes may help. I have no personal experience with cramping.

@deliciousowl I had the same experience you and i will tell you the changes i did which suddenly fixed the issue:
- No more baking soda powder when training
- More thyroid intake through iodized casein
- Mag chlorid on legs (did it only temporarily)
- I stopped eating meat or any foods that feel heavy on my body before training, and now I eat them after training instead

@Santosh quiting coffee was not a fix for me
