    Here's my issue:
I've got bad GERD and periodic very slow digestion.
My tongue has a perpetual white coat.
It's been there ever since I was on flagyl in 2020 for a bad c.diff. infection I got and no doctor would see me due to the height of COVID.

But I've tried everything I can think of here:
Mastic gum multiple times a day, low carb, carnivore, coconut oil pulling, using a water pic for flossing instead of standard floss, tongue scraping, brushing with only baking soda to avoid exposing my mouth to additives,, adding methylene blue to my diet, taking large doses of niacinimide and aspirin for their anti-microbial effects, and even using oregano oil pills, etc and it will simply not go away.

I've taken pylori and sibo tests with no results, but this is such an irritating issue as anything I eat stains my tongue unless it's just meat.

What have you done that has helped you in this area?

Have you tried high dose thiamine? – flagyl (Metronidazole) can cause mitochondrial dysfunction and disturb thiamine metabolism.

Penicillin temporarily relieved it. And daily or twice daily carrot salad/bamboo/mushroom

Raw garlic or plain ol' Listerine?

Riboflavin Targets the Cellular Metabolic and Ribosomal Pathways of Candida albicans In Vitro and Exhibits Efficacy against Oropharyngeal Candidiasis

"IMPORTANCE Candida species are common pathogens in fungal infections, causing mucosal infection and invasive infection in immunodeficient patients. Given the limited classes of drugs and resistance to these drugs, new antifungal agents need to be developed. Drug repurposing is a potential method for antifungal drug development. This study demonstrated that riboflavin (RF) exhibited broad-spectrum anti-Candida activity. RF affected multiple targets involving the membrane and cell wall integrity, the accumulation of reactive oxygen species and pyruvate, and the altered metabolic pathways in C. albicans. Moreover, RF exhibited efficacy in the treatment of C. albicans in an oropharyngeal candidiasis mouse model. Taken together, the antifungal activity and the promising clinical application of RF were highlighted."

                https://www.thecandidadiet.com/acetaldehyde-and-candida/
"The common factor that we see in both hangovers and Candida overgrowth is an organic chemical named acetaldehyde. It is actually all around us – there is acetaldehyde in polluted air, tobacco smoke, synthetic fragrances, and many of the foods we eat. However, the amounts that we get from environment exposure alone are pretty low. Acetaldehyde usually only becomes a problem during a Candida overgrowth or when we drink alcohol.

Why does it matter if our levels of acetaldehyde become elevated? For starters, it is a known neurotoxin and possibly carcinogenic. But you’re probably more familiar with the more immediate effects of acetaldehyde – headaches, fatigue, brain fog, and nausea."

Gentian violet has long history of use for thrush. I suspect the issue with tongue coatings is that antimicrobial agents need to be long lasting(locally or otherwise) or need to be applied very often. Gentian violet is very long lasting, but this is also one of the downsides, as most don’t want a purple tongue/mouth for a long time.

@mostlylurking I can try B2 in high doses.
I have no trouble with alcohol though.

@cornwallis It has not helped the tongue coating if that is what you mean.

Otherwise, it is hard to say, some weeks I’ll get slow digestion one day, other weeks, 4 days in a row. Not seeing a great difference.

Have you tried fasting, like three days just water.

I suspect that consistency is more important than "high" doses of B2. It is water soluble so it only stays around for maybe 2 hours. I take100mg, 4Xday.

@fiester Not lately, but historically fasting hasn't helped with this no. I was shocked when after a fast I tried three years back, that even during it just liquids would stay in my stomach for hours.
But the tongue coat stuck around as well.
