As we all saw from mr pikeypilled on twitter dot com, the 2% Fresh Market brand milk is bad. I've personally had good success with Organic Valley skim milk, the "grassmilk" variant, but I'm still waiting for them to email me back. I've found that most mozzarellas on the market use non animal rennet, but I recently discovered that the Boar's Head brand uses plain old rennet and it is very tasty stuff. Another example is the Publix Deli brand Pecorino Romano which uses real animal rennet. Do any of you know of a brie that uses real rennet? I want to make some baked brie a la Brad, but I have struck out on every brie nutrition label I've inspected.

At my local grocery store, most of the higher end French bries will have have animal rennet. I typically stick with Italian cheeses because they have strict requirements on rennet usage and naming. There are two French brie styles that also have a naming requirement which dictates animal rennet use, but they are expensive and I don't think you'd typically find them at a grocery store.

Here's a good resource for what cheeses to NOT buy:

Ahoy laddie, I know I don’t need to recommend any ice cream, as you already have that sorted.

Murray’s cheese offers some cheese made with animal rennet, but not all. Their “brie fermier” looks to be the best option as far as brie goes (most are microbial rennet). Hopefully you can find some of their selection in a store near you. All of their gruyere is made with animal rennet.

@john as far as i know every italian imported cheese with D.O.P. written on it has to have strictly real animal rennet, should be the same with every french imported cheese with A.O.C. written on it

Anyone have good queso recommendations that use either animal rennet or lime? I keep finding them with ‘enzymes’ listed and it would be nice to have a cheaper melting cheese for quesadillas or papusas.

Anybody have intel on the Trader Joe’s reduced fat lactose free milk? Of the milks I’ve tried it tastes the best, and despite my efforts I still have minor lactose intolerance with regular milk.
