Mold damages the brain:
MRI scans of the CIRS patients' brains show that over 45% of them have areas of gliosis (scar tissue in the brain), compared to only 5% of healthy people.

Additionally, MR spectroscopy, which looks at brain chemicals, shows abnormal levels of lactate (a sign of cell stress) and changes in glutamate and glutamine levels (related to brain function).
