I started taking peating seriously about a month ago. The sole negative symptom I have is that I've begun waking up at 3AM feeling relatively relatively energized in a somewhat uncomfortable way (cortisol perhaps?). I also typically feel pretty hot. Could I be running out of glycogen? I've tried eating a lot of ice cream before bed but it's had no effect. Could I just have poor glycogen storage capacity in my liver? Any ideas? I go to sleep around 11.

@eric I get this if I take a break from the gym & then overtrain upon returning, especially if I'm not eating enough. Are you eating regularly throughout the day, not letting yourself get hungry? It's not just before bed but frequent meals all day that keep glycogen supply stable. Dehydration can lead to overheating during the night. Too much protein before bed can cause a sudden drop in blood sugar a few hours later. Sometimes any meal too close to bed time will disturb sleep.

        Good things are immeasurably costly

If memory serves it's usually either the liver running out of glycogen or potentially a lack of salt. I find most of my sleep issues could be solved with a large glass of OJ with some salt added (unironically delicious). As nice as ice cream is I find chilled dairy more difficult to digest, especially at night.

@GuantanamO-Shea second this, it’s the lack of salt. As soon as i started adding small amount salt to my ice cream i would sleep entirely throughout the night, if i ever forgot salt I’d wake up at 2am to piss

@skylark I may not be eating enough total. I'm trying to eat more consistently throughout the day but I'm likely failing at this on maybe half of the days of the week. I'll make this adjustment, thank you.

The excessive protein before bed could be a cause as well, I'm usually eating half a pound of ground beef around 8pm.

@GuantanamO-Shea @Donovan I get quite a lot of salt during the day, but I'll try making sure I get some right before bed.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I'll try all of these and report back.

                    @Donovan @Fructose will try these

                    summarizing:

                    • eat more regularly throughout day
                    • stay hydrated
                    • don't eat too much protein close to bed
                    • keep salt intake high
                    • OJ and cheese with salt before bed instead of ice cream, or start salting ice cream
                    • or milk with honey before bed

@eric Waking up at 3 a.m. is a classic symptom of hyperactive adrenal glands. Peat's diet should help. It has helped me significantly and my sleep is very regenerating.

In one clinical trial, milk with honey before bed showed high effectiveness compared to placebo and sleep medications. I'll send them later.

@Fructose great, thank you. I've been feeling better every day since I started taking eating seriously, like I said this is the only negative change I've noticed. I'm thinking maybe my metabolism has rapidly sped up and my liver is lagging behind, so I'm just burning through all my glycogen really quickly at night.

@eric this is most likely. So just drink milk with lots of honey. Fructose effectively rebuilds glycogen because it is metabolized in the liver.

another possible culprit I just recognized: taking aspirin in the evening (6pm). going to cut that out too

@eric When you say you've started taking it seriously, what are you doing? Diet changes? Thyroid? Could be helpful to diagnose.

I don't have a clue on total calories and macros other than that I think it's possible I'm under eating. I've lost 5 pounds since I started this, though that may have been water weight. I've had persistent gut issues with lots of bloating, and it's completely dissipated since I started peating. My stomach stays flat all day. I might try tracking calories since it should be pretty easy with how simple this diet is. I'm 5'11" and 158lbs.

I take the estroban in the morning, and the isolated mk-4 before bed.

Also I think I'm getting quite a lot of salt. I heavily salt my eggs, the soup, and the ground beef.

@eric Sometimes when the thyroid is "waking up" background cortisol levels are revealed and that causes nervousness and little sleep. Not sure if that's what's going on here but if it is that then it should dissipate in a week or two.
