Old members of RPF, Some thoughts on this forum
-
Hello,
It’s good that there are now alternatives to RPF. Initiatives like this are needed.
Does anyone know how what happened to old members of the RPF, members like Mittir, tyw, Dan Wich (toxinless), Amazoniac and others? I know Amazoniac was banned, I am wondering whether these and so many other contributors have a blog page or something like that. I learned a lot from the old members’ writings, especially those of Mittir’s, that I would like to read more if it’s possible. Dan’s website, toxinless, was and still is very useful, but he hasn’t updated it for some time, it seems he also disabled the comments section of his website, which was informative.
I was banned in 2023 from RPF. I had found the atmosphere so toxic and unbearable for the last few years that in the end I wanted to be banned.

Etc.
I have been watching this bioenergetic forum since the first day. Until today I was hesitant to join, because it seems many of the members, or at least those who are the most visible, are teenagers focused on “looksmaxxing”, and their lingo and general attitude seem odd, to put it politely. But I think, if the administration of this forum make sure that this forum doesn’t become a place to sell products and advertisement; allows free speech and calm, level-headed discussions; and lets people with sincere intentions share their knowledge, research, experience and thoughts with each other; appreciate supportiveness, then I think the member profile will become better and diverse, and good people will become members more and more. I have seen some people who have been hesitant about joining this forum due to what’s been partly visible on the surface, but I believe this can and will change if the administration proves to be good.
There are problems with the forum software. I think something should be done to improve visibility, easy readability on mobile phones.

There has been a deliberate attempt to destroy internet forums and channel people into social media platforms for years.
I know there’s a cost of running a website/forum like this, and I believe the people can make donations or payments through different methods for the said cost, if the administration explains it openly to the community.

I just saw a typo in the OP, probably due to autocorrect; I wanted to correct that but the software doesn’t allow editing after a certain time:
“ You are only allowed to edit posts for 3600 second(s) after posting”
Maybe the administration would correct it for me:
“Does anyone know how what happened”
“how” should be deleted.
I think it would be much better if the software was programmed so that members can edit their content freely, without any restrictions. Not only that, but also the option to delete one or all of one’s content easily, and without any restrictions by the content creator himself would be fair.

A print mode (print view) for threads would be useful.

A way of easily seeing the threads you've participated in would be good to. I like to keep reading a thread even if I'm not participating in it anymore.
Cheers again to Brad for starting the new forum
Edit: didn't realise there was already a way of doing this with the little notification bell at the top.

I agree with your original post; regarding your edit, if you mean the little notification bell at the top right corner that you see when you click on your account profile picture, then I don’t think that’s “a way of easily seeing the threads you've participated in”.
An independent “My threads” page for every forum member under his profile would be better organized and easier to view.

Yeah that would be good too

@Logan said in Can we not have ads please:
Unrelated ads should be understandable; and may be acceptable, depending on the context. First and foremost, the admin should be completely open about the cost of running this site, and share that with the members of the forum with each significant change of cost.
The problem starts when either the admin or forum members who sell things online start using the forum to advertise. That should not be allowed. No one should even be allowed to share what they sell, with a link to their website, in a forum post; so much so that even sharing what you sell, and your website in a private message should not be tolerated, if this is to be truly a good forum.
This is my opinion.

@brad isn’t Cohn a version of Cohen? That’s what most people must have assumed.

“Cohen (one of the Kohanim; a member of the priestly caste) = Kohen, Kohn, Cohn, Kuhn (also a non-Jewish German surname), Kahn, Kohan, Koch, Cook, Kagan, Kogan, Cogen, Kahan, Cahan, Cowen, Cowan, Cullen, Kahane, Cahane, Kaban, Kaganovich, Kaun, Caine”

@brad could you share the reason why you chose not to reply?

@Logan it shouldn’t matter if he’s a Jew. If someone asked me that question I wouldn’t respect it with an answer.

It shouldn’t matter if he is a Jew, it should matter if the admin is shamelessly lying to the whole community.
I didn’t ask him whether he is a Jew, I asked him a question of linguistics. Read carefully.
Don’t confuse me with teenage right-wing trolls that this forum is infested with.
Since it shouldn’t matter if he is a Jew, by the same reasoning, a direct question about his ethnoreligious origin can and should be easily answered. It’s a simple question, requiring a simple answer. A question that I did not ask.
He can defend himself, don’t try to do it for him. Don’t make assumptions on his or my behalf.

@Logan I still can’t figure out what being Jewish has to do with the price of tea in China.
