      What could be causing lack of mental clarity and brain fog? besides psychological factors what could have caused this and what can fix it? Thanks in advance for anyone who responds.

      I've been dealing with brain fog since a troubled breakup and can't seem to fix it, most of the time it bothers because I act too instinctively and indecisively because of the fog.

        Besides the usual stuff of thyroid function, PUFA intake, thiamine/sugar/caffeine/aspirin, anything that helps mitochondrial function, I think an important factor is meaningful, challenging work. Ideally for/with other people.

        The brain rises to the tasks presented to it. It's a flywheel kind of thing. Demand for intelligence begets it. I don't really consider this a "psychological factor" but a material force in itself.

        Impulsive behavior could mean somewhat elevated estrogen level. I am not an expert on resolving that in particular but the above would also be helpful.

          Insufficient sleep, poor gut health, chronic dehydration (electrolyte balance) and/or stress levels should be the first things checked before anything.

          Your breakup might as well has put your adrenal system in higher agitation, as such comes with it increase of inflammation pathways & typical stress-related nutrient depletions / impaired absorptions, e.g. B Vitamins, C, D3, Mg, Zinc; + overall higher required energy uptake. Also mind that emotional distress can impair cognitive functions, leading to difficulties in concentration, memory lapses, sense of cloudiness; your amygdala is overclocking which roughly speaking is overriding the rational thinking part of the PFC - most of the above nutrients have some key roles in mood regulation as well

          Other remedies off my head are checking deficiencies regarding B12, Omega3 (debatable), or supping with B3, CoQ10, Choline (2-5 eggs a day), Gingko, Chewing Gum (more blood flow, but get clean options like Mastic Gum) - however taking supps in isolation-form is more symptom reduction and underlying issues are more sustainably tackled by goin for the easy whole foods peaty way of life.

          Go get some exercise to mitigate possible neuroinflammation mediating the fog, long hikes in mountains goin tea drunk, deep breathing birds are chirping, lush lilac breeze and solo lake swimming in hazy summer heat, options are endless. True Love will always find you in the end ~ all the best xx

            Need more info on the circumstances, the way you "handle" the weeks / months before "mental fog".
            What about the oxalates and phytates you've ingested from food. impact on sulphur to get rid of. havoc on the metabolism and the brain.
            Or a cure with high dose vitamin B1 or B6 without other B complex.
            Etc.
            We need more info.

                  @polba https://raypeat.com/articles/articles/serotonin-disease-aging-inflammation.shtml

                  Has some elaboration.

                  Serotonin, estrogen, and cortisol are synergistic. So it's not just estrogen on its own, it's part of an inflammatory survival mechanism promoting cellular fermentation over respiration. Adaptation to a bad environment (food is the most direct environment for the body).
