@yerrag Tara was a nurse. Therein was the (CVid) problem imo. Medical indoctrination.
-
@ilovethesea That's what he said. But it actually means, "I always hated smart people. They trigger my shame. I had to ride the short bus and everyone bullied me for being so dumb. I feel so much better with my power to put smart people in their place."
-
@saturnuscv Yeah but that's just common sense. Something I see utterly lacking on the RPF. Vitamin toxicity is a real thing...toxic vitamins aren't.
It's important to understand the psyche of your average forum user. They're either trying to sell you something, so the grift is never up and it's always changing. Or they're hypochondriac, always plagued by a mysterious illness that never quite gets cured no matter what they do.
The Mike Fave dude for example, pretty much demolished the "toxin A" theory. What was the comments about it on the RPF? They were like "uhhh, well, he looks yellow to me!" Yeah no, it's called being tan retard. I guess a pale corpse is considered healthy now. Kinda wished more people would post before/afters like Blossum. See how they compare to Mike and Danny, both of which look far better than anyone I've seen in the toxin A crowd.
Of course l don't want to get too hung up on anecdotes here, because that's precisely what this toxin A crowd loves doing. Still though, I don't think they can even claim the anecdotes are in their favor when you have people like Danny who's in his mid 30s looking better than your average 27 year old.
-
@yerrag I'm not sure that a new Charlie is at the helm. Charlie has evolved quite a bit over the years. I saw the biggest change(besides low VA) when he became the "Law and Order Admin." I doubt he would severely change up the forum like he has now unless there was significant financial incentive for him to do so.
I'm not sure if it's traffic to Garrett's site for customers which most likely wouldn't pay that much.
-
@Peatful Charles has bounced from one idealogy to the next rather quickly over the years. To slander Peat like this is beyond excessive.
-
@ilovethesea Both pictures are alarming.
I don't know how that much weight gain can be blamed on Ray Peat.
When I was over-training aikido, I looked like the 2nd picture. I was a little more ripped meat suit on a waif skeleton. Veiny arms and hands. Kinda Iggy Pop face.
When I switched from Jaminet IF - mostly paleo to Peat's ideas, I did gain some weight. But I look a zillion times healthier. My face or arms or legs did not put on any weight. My skeleton got more mass. People started telling me I looked like Brooke Shields with more squared off jaw and thicker eyebrows and bright face. I put weight on in my skeleton, boobs, hips, butt and a little too much in the abdomen. Here is me now. No surgery. No fillers. I don't exercise beyond gardening at the moment. I am 62.
Considering going from low-carb + way over-training to eating carbs freely (to taste. I don't have an eating disorder. I just eat when I am hungry. And I eat what I crave. KISS. )--and stopping exhaustive exercise. I was pretty amazed that re-feeding could be so pleasant.
I plan on choosing a local exercise class--maybe barre or pilates type level. So i think I will trim a little bit more. But I have zero desire to look like Iggy Pop again. -
@Regina Beautiful!
-
@Regina I'm glad you were able to establish a healthy equilibrium for yourself. I think a lot of people believe it's a joke when long distance runners are compared to smokers in terms of accelerated aging, but it's actually true. Overtraining ages people fast! Especially when combined with under eating. You didn't supply a before shot, but I would guess whatever you're doing is working. I can't believe you're 62, you look stunning. Wish you well on your future endeavors.

Blossom just posted her own before and after photos as a supposed “advertisement” for how well Garrett Smith’s diet works. I’m sorry to say but I find the after quite shocking.
Before - on Ray Peat diet
After 5 years of Garrett Smith
This is from here https://raypeatforum.com/community/threads/ray-peat-and-toxic-bile-theory-in-what-way-do-these-philosophies-differ.52792/
It would be really helpful if we knew exactly what she was doing in her version of the “Ray Peat diet” wasn’t she on estrogen at one point? – Definitely not peaty. This massive weight loss has been achieved by periods of fasting. This is not just a low vitamin A diet this is also extreme dieting. Extreme weight loss can have a down side. As the saying goes........
-
@Regina - Wow, I would not have guessed that you are 62. I am no expert but my guess would have been off by 20 years.
Keep up the good work.
-
Fabulous @Regina Hopefully this will encourage others.

I think Mike Fave's recent video basically touched on that idea. These people change too much at one time to ascertain the true nature on why they feel better. And more than likely it has something to do with getting foods out of their diet that was causing intestinal irritation or that otherwise just didn't digest well. Honestly alt health spheres are at a bad point when they change everything about their lifestyle and then pinpoint the lack of an essential vitamin to why they feel better. Standard American Diet isn't even that fucked up. I digress.
I may be wrong here, but I don't necessarily think it's dangerous for post-menopausal women to take estrogen provided they're also taking progesterone too. They basically need full hormone replacement therapy, not just estrogen by itself.

You are right, Mike Fave did cover those points in his video.
I disagree about estrogen - there was an exhaustive discussion about this on this thread on the RPF.

@Mulloch94 Thank you so much.
I don't know how I would have gotten out of the state I was in without finding Ray Peat or Georgi.
The young adults behind me in the photo are some of the children of my multi-decade clique of friends. Unfortunately, when I saw my friends, their parents, my heart skipped a beat. They are all into low-carb. Sugar is evil. What I saw were shrunken friends. Literally, shrunken heads. Thick skin on atrophied wiry bodies. Even thinner chins. I am by no means gloating. I am heartbroken to see my friends not see this. They also tend to pound hard liquor. Straight scotch. Straight bourbon. One of them was in a wheelchair with MS. Another bald and rattling like a tree. Only one of my old friends said he was way into bio-hacking and health. But drumroll: ice-bathing and low-carb. I really would like to be able to help my friends. -
@DavidPS curtsy.

And then there's this guy who eats ALL the fruits and colorful vegetables. ("F*** Portion Control") https://www.reddit.com/r/loseit/comments/cza4q5/30lbs_down_and_feeling_good_for_the_first_time/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I think a vast majority of estrogen's detrimental effects are likely because doctors prescribe the wrong type. This is something doctor Michael Platt as discussed in his interviews on various pods. There's almost never a good reason to prescribe anyone estradiol. And women can get the vaginal benefits without the pro-tumor side effects from using estriol cream. But no matter what estrogen is used it should still be matched with progesterone.

I really would like to be able to help my friends.I feel your pain and frustration. I'm only 30, and most of my friends are only in their late 20s or early 30s and I see many of them doing things not conducive of long-term health in my opinion. I think, at the end of the day, it is best to do what we can by gently pushing advice on them that may seem controversial to their perspective, but never to go overboard. Because when the rubber meets the road, they gotta be the ones to want or desire change, we can't do it for them. It can be frustrating, but it's also good to take a step back and realize health can be a quest, or journey. For example I haven't always been where I'm at. I had rough beginnings. I'm all too familiar with that "ice bath low-carb" thing your friend is doing, lol.

I wonder when Charlie will gloat about the first person that successfully detoxed their child by killing them. This is absolutely astonishing - "hey, look my child is constantly vomitting and having green diarrhea. Bet none of your kids are detoxing this hard "

Yea... what the hell.
