Topical magnesium spray works very well but causes a rash

I've been taking oral mag glycinate for years. I sort of just assumed it was 'working'. Two days ago I decided to switch to topical magnesium chloride spray, because I decided to take a break from glycine as an experiment. Two things happened: the spray had a huge positive effect on me. I felt it right down to my toes, for hours, and it was so potent, it made me wonder how much of the oral supplement I'm actually absorbing. I have to suspect not much? I never feel anything from the oral supps, despite taking 4 per day.
Two, it very quickly led to a nasty rash on my forearms and torso. I'm disappointed because I thought I'd found a much better way to get magnesium into me. Sadly looks like I'll have to switch back to the oral supps.
Years ago I read a post on the RP forum that shared a study saying topical magnesium absorption was abysmal and a waste of time. So I never tried it. But my own experience these past 2 days would strongly indicate otherwise.

post script: I checked the spray bottle and it says in the first week of usage, you might experience skin irritation. Apply spray to damp skin whilst your body adjusts. So it must be quite common. Think I'll persist and see if it clears up.

I'd have to look it up, and someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i had thought that the amount of elemental Magnesium was pretty low in the glycinate form. Though glycine may have a calming effect for some it isn't producing a feeling for you.
Imho everyone reacts differently to the various forms of Mag, we may have to try several forms to find the one we like. In my case i found the following types as most effective for me, starting from best: bicarbonate, sulfate, hydroxide. Chloride was ok too but feels different when dosed internal vs external, point of application etc, there's room to experiment with this form though.

apply coconut oil to skin first then spray magnesium oil on then rub in
or just mix the mag chloride in a cup with coconut oil then apply
no rash

also 200mg mag elemental from mag glyc capsules is standard and unless with super slow digesting food is foo much orally
small doses frequently are better
mag balances or smth the mitochondrial membrane potential and i read its better small doses frequently oralytaking on skin small amounts absorb slow release probably and thats why better effect probably .
