"Almost any kind of stress increases the formation of melatonin."- Ray Peat (Aging Eyes, Infant Eyes, and Excitable Tissues)

What are your experience with increasing/decreasing light exposure?

@dan-dominic For the last 10 years, thanks to Ray's advice and statements by many strong advocates for sunshine at RPF, I adjusted my work schedule to be outdoors as much as possible and during the high-noon hours 11am-2pm as much as possible. I think this has improved mental and physical health in many significant ways. I now crave outdoors time and sunshine to such an extent that my friends at work go along with my requests for 'walking meetings', my friends (who avoid sunshine) indulge my desire for sun exposure by finding outdoor seating with me in the sunshine and them under an umbrella, etc. It's not always easy, as so much of my professional life is in an office, and my commitment to being outdoors has probably caused me to attend fewer midday meetings and make some choices in favour of health at the cost of workplace productivity.

Miles Mathis has a theory that photon/electron flow from space energizes us whenever we are outdoors, even sleeping on an outdoor bed at nighttime. If you're fortunate enough to have a place to try it out, I'd recommend it highly. Feels noticeably better waking up after sleeping outdoors.

@dan-dominic Ray mentioned everything and light exposure was always recommended by him. I remember on Twitter someone saying something like 'Peaters never mention gelatin!'.

The fact of the matter is that most 'Peaters' aren't interested in things Peat said and are very unfamiliar with his work.

This does not make these things 'lesser mentioned' because those 'people' should just be ignored entirely.

If you were to judge the movement of 'bioenergetics' by its supposed adherents then all of Ray's works are about jacking off, increasing your height, eating rice and weightlifting

@CO3 Lol. Your analysis is pretty spot on.

Sorry if my language wasn't as clear. I see light exposure constantly mentioned in Peat's articles (along with melatonin's negative assosciations), so my statement was meant to state that the amount it's talked about in Peat's articles is very disproportionate to what you see mentioned online. In fact, one of Peat's quotes on the main factors influencing human health includes "red light" along with thyroid and progesterone.

@dan-dominic I agree with you that natural or close to natural light exposure is one of the most important factors in health by far and that anything not diet, supplement or exercise related doesn't nearly get enough attention. Any intelligent person in this sphere will tend to jump to a holistic image for example when helping someone; asking about their relationship, living situation, sleeping schedule, time outdoors etc
