I've only seen Peat talk about how starch can cause negative consequences aside from a few good words he had on potatoes
I can't tolerate starch at all so I decided to try going without, and I asked on here for how to get calories without but got no replies, I assume because strict starch intolerance is rareI had a few good days when I upped my carbs a lot via more fruit and even more juice but now the good effects seem to be fading
I always get hit with a big wave of tiredness after breakfast that proceeds to get worse until night
Do I need to be supplementing something if I am having only juice/meat/fruit? (I also can't tolerate dairy) -
To make digestion easier, there are several options.
- For most people, nutritionists advise to eat according to the pH required for digestive enzymes, in case of pathology or bad digestion:
Either cereals + vegetables, or protein + vegetables. Legumes will be avoided because they contain antinutrients (anti-proteases).
In your case, cereals (starch) will be replaced by simple carbohydrates (disaccharide and glucose, fructose).
However, it will be necessary to take care not to exceed a certain threshold for fructose (sugar especially contained in the fruits, honey, agave / maple syrup). Otherwise the liver will be overloaded + weight gain. I assess this quantity to 50 gr of fructose. RP advised to balance the amount of fructose with the amount of glucose. In fruit, it's often 50/50, with a few exceptions. - Also pay attention to the possible fermentation whenever there is poor assimilation. On the one hand, it is necessary to avoid the stagnation of starches in the 2nd part of the colon (so it would be necessary to go 2x to stool per day) in order to avoid bacterial proliferation (fermentation dysbiosis). On the other hand, you have to make sure you dig out fructose (fruit sugar). Fructose is essentially digested by the liver, and converted mainly into glycogen (50%) in order to constitute a reserve for muscles and an extra in the event of blood hypoglycemia.
There may be an insufficiency or intolerance to fructose. The triggers of this intolerance can be gastrointestinal diseases or aggressive medications for the intestine. An intolerance to fructose can occur at any time during life: stomach aches, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, etc.
Give up harmful substances for 2 to 4 weeks and see what's going on. We direct or suppress, as the case may be. Up to 5g of fructose per day, corresponds to approximately one apple. Watch out for pears. - A supplementation in digestive enzymes is recommended, in order to relieve work.
NB: We inform ourselves on the required pH and the order of advised foods.
The pH for starches is quite different from the one for meat.
We first eat vegetables because digestion is faster (20-30 ’). - It is better to split and make small meals than 3 large meals. However, we will avoid snacking.
For example, I would start the day with a sugar supply (to recharge in fuel and thus avoid hypoglycemia). This will avoid stressing the body. The kind of sugar has to be chosen according to your capacities. Adapt yourself.

@xand hey, I experience the same thing when I cut out all starch. I get extreme fatigue and go into a depressed state. I find if I eat something like non fat strained yoghurt with honey or ice-cream that it gets better. Do you u include honey and sugar? And increased dairy for carbs helps.

If you can't digest milk, it's probably because of specific sugars from milk: lactose.
most people have few enzymes (lactases) to digest this type of sugar. And we lose the capacity soon after teenage. Not everybody.
There is few lactose in cheese but mind the ratio phosphate / calcium. Ideally 1/2.2.
Much phosphorus in hard cheese.
If you have intolerance with gluten (bread), it could be a cross-reaction (similitude of configuration of amino acids). No dairy at all then. -
I couldn’t really digest starch until I decided to start combining it with a moderate amount of fat, now it digests perfectly. Try making your own fries/chips using coconut oil and butter adding butter to rice etc. A baked potato with plenty of butter.
When I have rice or potatoes without much fat it is often a gamble whether it will digest well.
