      Since simple sugar intake spikes insulin, which counters growth hormone, wouldn't eating lots of sugar & working out be antithetical?

        @Pooooop growth hormone is a stress hormone that promotes the liberation of fatty acids in the bloodstream. one of the main benefits of carb intake is lower growth hormone.

          @Pooooop For example, consuming large amounts of simple sugars can increase insulin levels, which reduces the secretion of growth hormone, but a balanced intake of carbohydrates can help provide energy for training.

            I see. I guess this was the realistic answer. I know people on steroids avoid carbs for this very reason (see Joe Rogan), & I wrongly assumed that the same ramifications would carry over. Thank you both.

              This is a massive myth that growth hormone is anabolic in the sense like steroids. Growth hormone, as mentioned, is a stress mediator. To a certain, controlled degree, primarily by good thyroid function, some GH secretion is necessary as per the repair process. In young people, with epiphysis bone not having fused, it is primarily responsible for growth in that stage of life. By far however, insulin and T3 are the primary anabolic sources. Having sufficient vitamin D and carbs, in the context of oxidative metabolism, is what ensures lean tissue maintenance. With good OXPHOS, the weight loss is usually in the form of fat.

                @Bear_ wait, do you mean one should also eat more complex carbs like starches? I was under the impression simple sugars were superior all around

                    That would be IGF-1, which is anabolic, and not GH. Insulin increases IGF-1 levels and fasting increases GH levels
