@heyman then why aren’t you answering my questions ? Ive asked you 3 questions and you’ve answered none of them.

There’s plenty of reasons why your salicylic acid isn’t dissolving, I’m trying to understand why.

@alfredoolivas 1g of salycicacid in 20cl of vodka and the rest water

          (+ niacinamide 4g and 1g caffeine)

I got my 96% ethanol today so I will try that one tomorrow

            @Cicero said in Homemade SolBan:

I wonder what Peat would say about putting ethanol on the skin. I actually got really sick from using vodka in a topical that I made once, and I believe that was 50% alcohol.

If it helps, I remember him saying somewhere that ethyl alcohol is ok but isopropyl is toxic. Strange that vodka topically would have that effect, because it’s supposedly meant for actual ingestion. Is it possible that it was another ingredient?

I tried making some once but did it in a hurry and cut too many corners. Some thing/s didn’t dissolve or didn’t dissolve completely.
It turned out gritty and I got jittery using it, so maybe I overdid the caffeine.

@Cicero Ill just put bloo 1:1 with water in a spray bottle, much much cheaper than solban and i dont have to buy all the ingredients

@samson The thing is, I don't know if baking soda on the skin will be that good. The Salicylic acid only dissolves on the bloo mixture because of the baking soda.

@AL The bicarbonate would probably just stick to the skin, creating a white layer. Doubt you would absorb much either. And also, the cost of buying caffeine, niacinamide and salycic acid makes it much cheaper than buying bloo. I pay 0,7€ per batch (100ml) of solban. Bloo is 30$ and 30 doses.

                    UPDATE.

Fresh from my experiments, I did another batch yesterday. Mixed the salycic acid and the ethanol first, then the rest. It turned out great. I am happy. Success. Just waiting for my succinic acid to complete the solban. Maybe I will put taurine in next time....decisions

Received my succinic acid this week and made a batch with it yesterday. Can't really tell a big difference but I have only used it a few times with the succinic acid.

Had some problems in the past with it being not all disolved. Solved this today by heating the solban. Clumps all gone.

@heyman I'm making mine now and I can't seem to dissolve the niacinamide, succinic acid and taurine (yeah, I decided to test it out in the formula too) in water. I wonder if heating doesn't alter the efficacy of some of the ingredients

@Phoenix007 I first add in the salycic acid in the ethanol to make it dissolve then I add (slowly) the rest in another beaker with water, then mix the two. Stirring helps, or gently swishing it around in circles.

Don't know about if heating lessens the efficiency...but it's a good question.

Will try with taurine in my next batch, now I have 7 bottles of solban so it will last a while.

Edit: Skin is just looking fabulous and I think the succinic acid is doing a good job working with the mitochondria. It's also nice to spray on the balls.

@heyman had no problems with the ASA and ethanol.

The rest were the problem tho, shaked and stirred a lot, then when I thought it was fine, mixed the 2 solutions (ASA+ethanol and the rest in water) and when I took to the bottle, it started to get some cloudy fine clumps amd then started to form a foam layer on top? Have you ever had this issue? I think it might be the taurine, as it has surfactant properties.

Will try doing like you, adding them slowly, opposed to dump all the powders in water and mixing everything later like I did.

Are you keeping the ratios of 4% B3 and 1% for the rest?

You said you used thiamine HCl in your formula too, right? Can you tell it has added benefits?

@Phoenix007 Took me a few times to get the clumps gone. The salycic acid tended to crystalize too which was annoying.

Don't rush, blend it well and put the powders with the liquid little by little. Heating helped a bit too, but I don't know if it's necessary.
