I have all the high estrogen serotonin symptoms
I can’t digest anything not easily at least.
My stomach always feels like it is hurting ,irritated and I’m constipated. (SIBO I think )
I can’t digest dairy and starch.

How can I heal my gut ?
Do I just need to eat really simple/fast for months and then the bad bacteria will die off because it isn’t being fed?
However It feels impossible to get even 1500 calories because 90percent of foods irritate my gut besides berries and carrots
Really don’t know what to eat.
And I don’t want to jump into antibiotics

@gg12 aspirin, flowers of sulfur/sulphur, and coconut oil work as antibiotics but are nowhere as toxic. You might want to try one or more of them.
Also I think some where you posted that you were on ssri drugs. If that’s the case you might want to get off of them. They are it seems for the most part problematic.

@gg12 I really like Aloe Vera juice for your symptoms. Any health food store will have it in big glass jugs. Get one that says “inner leaf.” Very soothing to the digestive tract. Helps get you pooping. 2 tablespoons before a meal. Couple times a day. Much more gentle then cascara sagrada but that would be the next step for combating constipation.
Food juices to help are organic canned b green beans or peas. Heated up with butter and lots of salt. Goes great with canned oysters. Very soft easily digested foods.
Kefir from A2 milk is very very helpful even 6oz or whatever you can handle. And of coarse making your own chicken noodle soup would be easy to tolerate. Carrot onion celery in chicken broth. Salty. Some people live of of homemade chicken stock for months until they get thier digestion working again. Similar with Kefir or goats milk Kefir. Very sustaining restorative foods.

@16characterstwas no I am off them almost a year now and they fucked my gut motility so badly. Apparently it is quite common. Really woke me up to a lot of things

@dapose oh my that sounds amazing I will def try.
                Two questions tho
is it a good idea to have kefir if I can’t proscces dairy tho ?
I don’t want to feed bad bacteria and most kefir seems to be marketed as “probiotic” and having a ton of bacteria.

Also should I be concerned about not getting a lot of calories while eating so simply ? I don’t want to starve myself

This is something you could try: Ayurvedic food combining. You can skip the text and go straight to the food combining chart.

If it works, you can later try making "wrong" food combinations and see how you feel. Fruit and cheese is a bad combination according to the chart, but I eat dates with feta quite frequently without issues.

Another thing to try is to keep some space between meals. Having ~3 hours between meals is usually enough for me, but some people might need more time.

Keeping meals simple can also be helpful--if for nothing else, at least to make it easier to notice when something doesn't agree with your body. I usually have 1-3 food items per meal. For example: dates with feta, which is 2; just dark chocolate, which is 1 (yes, I have just dark chocolate as a meal); or oat bread with butter and cheese, which is 3.

It may take a few weeks to notice improvements in gut function.

Does juice irritate your gut too? Drinking juice between meals--1 hour before or after--works well for me.

i have been there, it really sucks so i feel your pain. it won't be overnight but you can recover. here are somethings that helped me that i would recommend:

                      • daily carrot salad (helps cleanse the intestine and stimulates motility)
                      • cascara sagrada (you NEED to get things moving and unconstipate yourself. cascara is a game changer. if the recommended dose isn't enough to shift things in the right direction, use more. at times i used like 3 or 4x the recommended dose. over time you will need less.)
                      • vitamin d3 in olive oil (premier research labs or lark supply)
                      • coffee with sugar (a lot!) with every meal
                      • orange juice (if you can tolerate it, this can be a great source of carbs and vitamins/minerals all of which will help your recovery. get pulp free and organic if you can find it/afford it)
                      • supplement with eggshell calcium (forefront health sells a powder) if you can't tolerate dairy. the calcium will really help turn things around, definitely did in my experience. 500-1500mg per day). i usually mix it in orange juice.
                      • gelatin (microingredients or another reputable brand). very soothing to the gut. you can mix it in soup or tea or coffee or orange juice)
                      • cyproheptadine (you can get it from idealabs, 1-4mg at night time. helps with sleep and just realllly helps calm that inflamed irritated feeling in the stomach/intestine)
                      • antibiotics (if carrot salad isn't enough, doxycycline/minocycline, penicillin vk/amoxicillin, or erythromycin can be very helpful. i would say try to make some progress with the other things on this list but this can help move the needle once you've stabilized a bit)
                      • eating enough (basic bioenergetic concept but you NEED fuel for energy in order to recover. if you can tolerate ice cream, this can be very helpful. good ingredients like haagen dazs vanilla. but even just drinking chamomile tea with lots of honey and some gelatin, finding ways to add in honey to your meals/snacks throughout the day)

@peatyourheartout Can you please suggest a daily diet plan for gut healing?
I have exactly the same problems... sleep issues, histamine… and I can’t stabilize my blood sugar…
I think that the dysbiosis in my gut is causing the blood sugar instability…cause i have cravings (and sugar cravings) after a main meal...
Also, do you think NDT would help? I’m hesitant to take it because of the severe instability I mentioned above.

Lots of good ideas on here. I'd recommend the GAPS diet by Dr. McBride. Ray spoke highly of her and her website has lots of free information to get you started.

@mm33 I believe the GAPS diet could be very helpful, especially for those of us with significant gut issues... but isn't it contrary to Ray's principles, since it heavily restricts carbs?

@Ilias-Ant You could definitely be correct as I could be confusing her with someone else but I bought her book in 2021 I believe and I'd been reading/listening to Ray's interviews for a year or two before that and seem to remember him speaking highly of her. Her main diet doesn't restrict carbs but she does have a keto specific GAPS as well as no-plant and more-plant diets.

I've attached a link to her intro diet which shows what she recommends:

there is no one size fits all approach, but i recommend experimenting with different things to identify a few staple metabolically supportive foods that you can tolerate and build your diet around those for the first few months while you recover. things that worked for me:

                                  • corn tortillas with good ingredients (basically just corn and lime/calcium - no gums/fillers)
                                  • parmigiano reggiano cheese (traditionally prepared cheese that is well tolerated by almost everyone. high in calcium and protein).
                                  • bone broth (gentle on stomach and good source of collagen protein to balance muscle meat. this is another option in addition to the gelatin i recommended in the first post)
                                  • orange juice (if you can tolerate it, this is one of the most nutritious source of sugar. a superfood).
                                  • honey (i would just add this to almost everything i ate. kind of insane, but it was a source of carbohydrate that is very easy to digest so i just went with it).
                                  • lean meat (steak, chicken breast, lean fish, scallops, shrimp): for good protein. i always found meat felt good in my stomach.

just be sure to include adequate calcium in the diet when eating a lot of meat, because the meat is high in phosphorous which must be balanced by calcium. i think this actually contribute to a lot of inflammatory/digestive issues, in addition to vitamin d deficiency which is related. if you care to get into the details of this issue, this interview with ray peat is a masterclass and was revelatory to me:

                                  Youtube Video

one staple dish i basically ate all the time when i was down bad with digestive issues was this:

i would make a lot of tacos with corn tortillas and chicken breast (i would shred the chicken breast, heat it up in a pan with some coconut oil and add some salt, and add some some shredded parmigian cheese on top. sometimes i would add honey on top... it sounds crazy but it was delicious and nutritious and always well tolerated by my gut.

if you can tolerate it, goes well with a cup of sugared coffee as well.

cheers to you, i believe in you and have walked the same path as you and come out the other side.

@peatyourheartout Thank you for sharing your experiences... unfortunately lately i can't tolerate sugar... even if it is from good sources such as honey etc... same as with dairy.... i suspect candida overgrowth because I have mild histamine intolerance at this time... and if I take raw garlic... instantly i feel better and calmer... can you please tell me your opinion about this?

What symptoms do you get from eating sugar? What does your current diet look like on an average day?

Ray Peat has written specifically about how it is not good to cut out sugar with a candida infection as this can make things worse. Ray recommended flowers of sulfur for candida, something like 100mg for 2 or 3 days.

As for the histamine intolerance, I do not view this as a distinct problem but rather a symptom of generally poor metabolism. Cyproheptadine and famotidine (both antihistamines) at night can help with this, especially with just restoring quality sleep if this is an issue.

                                        With sugar,
I get a feeling of being unwell, often anxiety, and also extreme hunger, sometimes even ten minutes after a main meal...
Since I now observe and understand everything about myself... I’m sure it’s from the gut, 100%, because my temperatures are now very good...
I mostly eat eggs, meat, soups, dairy (I try to stick to A2), and fruit juices, fruit gels, and sometimes — not every day — a bit of ripe banana, which is very tolerable and doesn’t bother me...
Also, what you say makes sense, that’s why garlic helps me a lot, because it has a very high amount of sulfur...

Do you take any type of thyroid supplement? I can’t say for sure what’s going on, but if you are unable to tolerate sugar it is unlikely that your metabolism is thriving. Whatever kind of infection you have is likely impairing your metabolism, while also being a symptom of low metabolism. Someone with a high metabolic rate is not very susceptible to bacterial or fungal infection.

In addition to thyroid supplementation, eating the carrot salad daily would probably beneficial.
