Why does Ray Peat stutter so hard?
-
I think I would trust him less if he didn’t.

@xkraltr Could it possibly be a consequence of becoming too hyperthyroid? I remember at one point after Peat died people were concerned for Danny Roddy because his voice started to sound eerily similar to Peat's. Also Peat's voice got much worse for a time after exposure to celery juice which is also supposed to affect the thyroid (he said it was because he was allergic to it).

Happens to me when I tank my serotonin, the very process of verbalisation becomes hard because I emerge from an almost trance like state where object perception is not mediated through language constructs down to being forced to verbalise for communication purposes. My stutter is nowhere as bad however. Peat talks a bit about this in his article on Blake.

Galaxy brain trying to disseminate 50,000 ideas and complex thoughts, systems of life into an understandable and digestible wordcel format for the retards below.
A great kindness once you think about it.

Why did Ray write so well?
-
@xkraltr I stutter quite badly, always have. When I have better energy and I’m more alert I stutter less. Like most stutterers, it’s a great indicator of my mental state at the time. Except phone calls, then I just stutter so badly it takes multiple tries to order a pizza sometimes.

@AryanRaypEat I remember Ray saying his neighbour had that problem until he gave him b1. Is it really stuttering or finding it hard to verbalise?
-
@thyroidchor27 it’s being physically unable to get the words out, more so if you worry too much about getting the words out. I’m my case (and all other “real stutterers”) I know, anti-anxiety meds help, alcohol helps, or even muscle relaxers.
There are many explanations as to why stuttering occurs but the one that I and most other stutterers agree with the most is that everyone tenses up certain muscles when stressed. Some tense up their backs, their abdominals, etc. women tend to be like 90% abdominal tensers, and men like 50% back tensers. Stutterers are the unfortunate “vocal fold tensers.” (According to this theory.)
The greater variance among men as to what muscles they tense when stressed leads to stuttering being much more common in men.
however, I could (and many other stutterers say the same) not stutter while being cross-examined but be completely unable to say my name. This is because I have a giant panic in my body when asked my name since I know that this is a word I stutter on.
The only substance that I’ve found to affect just stuttering while not really affecting cognition much is BPC-157 injected sub-cutaneously. I haven’t done much experimenting with non-illegal substances though.

@AryanRaypEat have you tried Baclofen? It’s both anti anxiety and a muscle relaxant
-
I just figured it was because he's old. I watched that lecture form 2005 or so the other day and he doesnt stutter at all

@thyroidchor27 I don't believe so, since it's not available OTC, but I don't think anti-anxiety meds actually treat the root cause of stuttering, it's more like opening a window when the oven is heating up the room and it's 70degrees outside rather than turning off the oven.
I've heard people on reddit talk about the potential of dopamine agonist drugs, I've never tried them, but I've tried seroquel a few times as I've had access to those, and it made it harder to speak in general as I was in a cloud, literal lobotomy.
Adderall in high dosages effectively cures stuttering for the duration of the high, and lessens it during the come down, but during the following days (so if Monday you take 90mgs of addy, then Monday you won't stutter at all, and Tuesday you will stutter less than normal, but then Wednesday through Friday I would stutter so badly I wouldn't speak, since I wouldn't even be able to actually speak much at all.
(The reddit is mostly teenage boys who fear they'll never get laid - as a very handsome 6'3" man stuttering didn't really affect this too much for me tbh - it likely helped me by keeping me from sperging out too hard about esoteric subjects and scaring normie women off when I was younger)
