NDT Dose Frequency
-
Hello all! I am planning to experiment with taking desiccated bovine thyroid from Life Giving Store. The product page on their website recommends splitting the dose, but doesn't give any specific advice regarding this.
I have seen that Ray recommends to "nibble" on a tablet of T3 throughout the day to mimic the rate of natural production and I have read Danny Roddy's article "Demystifying Thyroid Supplementation", wherein he recommends not taking more than 5-10 mcg per dose with food, which I assume would be spaced out every few hours or so with meals. I also saw someone suggest on the Ray Peat Forum that NDT is released more slowly than isolated T3 or T4, which seems to make sense, though I have not found any source on this.
Basically, I am wondering if the advice regarding T3 dosage frequency is directly applicable to NDT dosage, or if there are other factors that I should be taking into account. Any advice or resources would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Have you read the blog on the Life Giving Store website?

@Peatly Yes, but I don't see anything regarding thyroid dosage.

@Peatly Understandable, thanks. I am well aware of the recent controversy regarding charlie and the Ray Peat Forum. I ordered this NDT from them before these events and, as far as I know, the product is of good quality and I still intend to use it.

In that case start on the lowest dose and work your way up increasing every dose every two weeks.
-
@Peatly That is my intention. I was curious as to what is the maximum or optimal amount of NDT one should take at once and how to spread the dose throughout the day. I understand that taking too much T3 in a single dose can cause issues and I assume that this would be an issue with NDT as well.

@DMS This website might have some answers. It says to start with one grain. My instincts tells me it might be better to start with half and see how you feel

NDT is different to T3 - you can get away with taking a grain all at once without adverse effects.

@Peatly Good info, thank you!

@DMS What Lifegiving store is selling is not actually NDT - they say that but it’s thyroid glandular. So it’s weaker, not as consistent and more $$$ vs real NDT or Cytomel/Cynoplus.
That said still worth a try if you can’t get anything else. There is a ton of info on dosing from Ray himself in the Peatarian email exchanges wiki... if you’re not banned like me you should still have access.
The problem with glandular is there’s no way of knowing how many mcg of T3 and T4 it has. Personally with NDT I dose 1/2 grain at a time since Ray said you don’t want too much T3 at once. Starting dose is usually 1/2-1 grain a day, then monitor temps/pulse and increase dose if needed after about 2 weeks.

Also no need to support dictator charlie’s store anymore, there’s lots of other brands here

some feedback on thyroid glandular, I have seen really good things happening by using, " THYRO COMPLEX" by Progressive Labs, Irving, TX. 800 527 9512. A very short brief of myself, I'm a 71 yr. old, And, have been trying to help people on their journey to better health, full time, since the age of 24 yrs. old. I have been an avid follower of Ray Peat for all of 40 years. I buy 200-400 bottles of the Thyro Complex at a time.

@CO3 hahaha I saw on Twitter someone recommended this store as a good alterantive for anyone who no longer wants to give charlie money

I think NDT is too inconsistent to follow any valuable dosing schedule. I had used the LGS powder for quite a while to varying degrees of success. It felt like some batches and dosages(which I always weighed, never just used the scoop) would be very strong and other times I would go through a few grams and felt like it was just dry powder. I think measured and synthetic is probably a better way to pursue thyroid supplementation.

@ilovethesea Interesting, thank you. After looking into it a bit more, I have decided that I will start with Cynomel/Cynoplus in order to more accurately control the dose and perhaps try NDT at a later point.

@CO3 lol

@Peatriot Thanks, I am thinking that too now.
