hirsutism from progest-e

@peaty-runescape I am not well read enough to answer but I think you need to lurk on peaty twitter more. Meds that doctor gives most likely wont be good from what I have read...

Progesterone doesn't cause hirsutism, there is no mechanism ever mentioned. Besides, a dose of 3-4 drops on the skin will barely affect circulating progesterone levels in the body. So, it makes no sense to assume that the progesterone is responsible for a sudden occurence of hirsutism. Vellus hair transformation into terminal hair is mostly due to the effect of androgens. Something that suddenly lowered her SHBG and significantly increased free androgens could be responsible.

Dear kingkiller, it surely caused a hormonal inbalance since it caused instant headaches everytime (so it had a strong effect), and she had a 3 week long period after that.
She never had period lasting more than a week before. So everything points to progest-e, as she did not make any other changes.But it is true that her hirsutism might not be connected to that - as she had some hair falling out after stopping birth control half a year ago, maybe that could have caused it?

@peaty-runescape Where did she apply the mixture?
-
@Kvothe to the stomach or navel, as it helped her period cramps.

I remember vaguely, from reading twitter that a lot of women that started progest-e initially had bad effects. One girl took 2 drops orally and felt like shit, dropped it for awhile but when she picked it back up and took 5 drops a day, it really helped her period pain.
I'm just speculating here, but what's probably happening is progest-e is releasing stored tissue estrogen and it's circulating throughout the system, causing headaches. I think for her hirsutism, androgens rose in order to be protective against the circulating estrogen.On the RPF the way they suggested to counteract this was to take a megadose, like 200mg for the first time. My own idea would be to first take thyroid and ensure the liver's efficient so you can detox estrogen, and then do the megadose. If men take a large enough dose their whiskers stop growing, so for her hopefully the megadose would oppose androgens enough that it helps with the hirsutism.
Just throwing ideas out there. -
@peaty-runescape bro, message me. I have plenty of info and advice as my wife went through this exact thing.

@CatlikeLantern Hi there, can I also message you?

Ray kinda denied that Progest E could have any adverse effects as long as they took enough of it. And a mega dose at first might be needed. On the progest e site it says those with pcos may just turn small amount of Progesterone into estrogen so a big dose is needed at first.
But PCOS is driven by low thyroid and high adrenal activity so shifting that with extra thyroid supplementation should be more effective while Progest E will kinda temporarily patch symptoms, but is still very therapeutic

@nicgabhann sure thing!
