What compounds have you taken, that were supposed to be beneficial, and found out that they tanked libido?
-
I hear this pretty often with dairy milk, for example. There's also people talking about having a higher libido on something like the carnivore diet compared to Ray Peat's recommendations. I'm trying to discern as to when a high libido can correlate with bad health, after an experience I had with a medication.
I am not talking about something causing impotency/erectile dysfunction, just simply the state of arousal drastically decreasing.

Overdoing the fat soluble vitamins (esp. E and K I think), pregnenolone, progesterone (though pretty much understood to be anti-libido in some contexts), androsterone.
I can't prove it but I also think tongkat ali and tribulus were libido killers for me. Basically, anything that increases DHT and / or lowers estradiol squashes things.
-
@Crypt-Keeper Interesting. I saw a post on the Charlie Garrett Forum about anti-aromatase decreasing arousal.
-
@Crypt-Keeper I think I did this with ADEK, preg. How long does it take to get back to normal after stopping?
-
@Crypt-Keeper tonga is estrogenic and tribu raises either prolactin or sero. I cannot remember which of the 2 it was
-
@dan-dominic cortisol causes extreme arousal but it is neither healthy or enjoyable as this arousal that is happening parallel to lack of energy substrat can cause dopamine downregulation (dopamine is a neurotransmitter which requires high metabolism to not be toxic in high amounts, thus hypothyroid people get downregulated after dopamine hits) inability to relax pelvic muscles during orgasm thus causing it to be unsatisfying. and finally leaving you in a sympathetic and wired state which is abnormal.
This is not arousal this it rhe body rushing to reproduce -
Cordyceps. Quercetin.
-
@Ecstatic_Hamster cordyceps are supposedly estrogenic depending on type
-
@lobotomize i agree, and quercetin is. Many many supplements really.

Maybe a month or two at most.

In my experience, heightened arousal is correlated with bad health when orgasms are unsatisfying, .i.e., lacking intensity/sensitivity is poor, leading to an insatiable sex drive. Our experiences are personal so I’m not sure how helpful this will be, but since you asked…
These are just some of the many compounds I’ve taken that caused a negative reaction (mainly irritated my intestines) and tanked my libido as a consequence:
• Activated charcoal
• Allicin/raw garlic
• Calcium hydroxide
• Eggshell calcium
• Erythromycin
• Hydroxocobalamin (injections)
• K-Min & Min-Col (soft rock phosphate)
• L-theanine
• Methylcobalamin
• Minocycline
• Neomycin
• Oregano oil (pharmaceutical strength)
• Phosphatidylserine
• Vitamin B complex
• Vitamin K2 (MK-4)These compounds heighten arousal and sensitivity:
• Dr. Morse’s Cellular Botanicals herbal tinctures—Adrenal Support, Brain & Nervous System, Endocrine Balance, Thyroid Tonic
• Green Pasture’s X-Factor Gold Concentrated Butter Oil
• HealthForce Superfoods’ Vitamineral Green
• Progest-E
• Thyroid (NDT)
• Vitamin D3 (in olive oil)And since you mentioned food, here’s my experience with dietary interventions:
• A2/A2 dairy causes heightened arousal and heightened sensitivity
• Conventional dairy causes heightened arousal, but reduced sensitivity
• Eggs cause heightened arousal, but average sensitivity
• Fruits cause average arousal, but heightened sensitivity
• Gelatin causes average arousal and average sensitivity
• Honey causes average arousal, but heightened sensitivity
• Meat/seafood causes heightened arousal, but average sensitivity
• Starch causes heightened arousal, but reduced sensitivity
• Tofu (traditionally made with nigari) causes heightened arousal and heightened sensitivity -
- Zinc - lowered my Estradiol too much
- Androsterone - gave me limp d*ck. Too bad, because otherwise it would give me strong masculinizing effect - thicker beard, deeper voice, mental calm
Word of caution - if you are not fat/overweight and are actually on the slim side, taking too much Estrogen lowering substance will backfire. These substances are useful for high aromatizers.
