I found this source of coconut "wax", which as far as I can tell is just hydrogenated coconut oil but the cosmetic focus has thus far prevented me from buying it to eat/cook with. Input appreciated, just don't buy it all before i can!

The hydrogenated coconut oil that I use when cooking is liquid at room temperatures that would cause ordinary coconut oil to solidify. Here is are the search results for hydrogenated coconut oil at amazon.

That is MCT oil . It has a fractionated oil that contains lower molecular weight components, and that is why it is liquid and not solid at room temperature.

If you don't fractionated coconut oil and you fully hydrogenate it, it is solid at room temperature. I use it for deep frying, but some people here would consider it the healthiest oil to eat as it is free from traces of PUFA that come with natural coconut oil

I don't even know if MCT oil is free from PUFA, but there is an assumption it is, and I tend to agree. The reason being that if I leave virgin coconut oil sitting for years, it will become rancid due to the presence of PUFA in it. Even a year is enough to make the VCO taste off.

But I havw an MCT oil sitting for 4 years or more, and it has no rancidity in it.

It is fully hydrogenated coconut oil. I guess calling it wax is just a shorter way of calling it. In the Philippines, wholesalers call it lard, for it resembles lard in color, but is the Peaty antithesis of pork lard.

Peat purists consider it health food, and while I agree, I don't like to eat lard nor wax ever. I'll settle for VCO even if it has some PUFA. The saturated portion will overpower the unsaturated.

@yerrag - Thanks, it seems that amazon has mixed some MCT oils into the search results. My guess is that the higher profit items appear first in amazon's list.

Here is the hydrogenated coconut oil that I purchased locally.
Carrington Farms gluten free, hexane free, NON-GMO, free of hydrogenated and trans fats in a BPA free bottle, liquid coconut cooking oil, unflavored, 32 Fl Oz

I would call that product an oxymoron though. How could it be free of hydrogenation when the point of hydrogenation is to remove all traces of unsaturation in the bonds, such that the oil would be 100% saturated?

Seems like Carrington wants to sell coconut oil to the Canola oil Wesson AHA heart-healthy crowd.

Mumbo jumbo marketing hit new highs with this product, don't you think?

edit: This is actually virgin coconut oil, with a rather long and flowery description to go with it.

@yerrag - Yes, I agree. The product does not indicate the amounts of the various mct oils. If my memory is correct, c8 is the most desirable (and expensive) mct for raising ketones. The product that I use may contain a lot of c12 mct oil which is the least desirable mct for raising ketones. C12 oil is fine with me because I am only using it for cooking. I use it because it liquid at room temperature and does not clog my kitchen drain.

@jhp search for "92 degree coconut oil" which equals to hydrogenated coconut oil that melts at 92 degrees.

IIRC, the amount of iodine in the batch reveals how pure the stuff is. You want the lowest amount of iodine you can find. This info is on the MSDS sheet (material safety data sheet).

I bought it. I am a bit dubious towards the idea of eating it currently. I used it on my skin and it felt good, maybe even better than regular coconut oil.

It has a very faint almost chemically smell but it actually doesn't smell bad.

It says on the tub "Not for internal use" and I imagine if you contact the company to ask them whether you can eat it they will just say the same thing for legal reasons.
