Peating represents youth, playfulness, and pleasure… as successful peaters will know, your mindset shifts as your metabolic state is affected. Is it a good idea if the current situation is not ideal? As in you cannot properly enjoy yourself for whatever reason (work, rejection, etc.) Or should it be reserved for leisure and relaxation?

I recall one time, I was feeling euphoric when peating. But at the same time I was sad because of something that had happened. It was weird

It's normal to feel sadness and grief sometimes, as long as it doesn't paralyze you and send you into a state of learned helplessness. I don't really see the weirdness in that situation.

But I'm not sure I understand the premise of this thread. Do you think that

        a) you should experience constant bliss if you have a high metabolic rate

        and/or

        b) that improving your health/metabolism is not worth it if your environment is still far from optimal?

I've never been a big party attender, but I never went to a party where I didn't probably offend most of the people there by talking about what I was interested in. (Ray Peat)

I’ll try to make this simple. When you stimulate your metabolic rate, it will make you feel euphoric. But what if that doesn’t relate to your current environment? There are situations that are supposed to make you feel negative emotions (or apathy)

I do not know. I am a fake peater. I eat one large bucket of broccoli and a small undercooked potato every day. Misery is my state.

Okay, I’ll try to make this simple. When you stimulate your metabolic rate, it will make you feel euphoric. But is that always a good thing? There are situations that are supposed to make you feel negative emotions (or apathy).

It was weird, because I was feeling sad that day. I cried. But I also felt euphoric at the same time because of the increased metabolic rate.

Okay, I misinterpreted your posts then.

I wouldn't say it's a bad thing. The high metabolism/energy/eurphoria may prevent you from experiencing negative emotions in a destructive way or rather draw destructive conclusions (sustained apathy, learned helplessness, nihilism, ...), but it doesn't prevent you from experiencing sad emotions.

"There are situations that are supposed to make you feel negative emotions"
But if I understand you correctly you did feel the negative emotions in the situation you described. The euphoria didn't numb you.

If you grieve or are angry it's better to be in a state of "I hate it, but it'll be okay" instead of "I hate it, so life is pointless".

wouldn’t you take dopamine-enhancing substances during your free time (play) instead of work?

or a more extreme example, if a loved one died… would you try to induce a state of euphoria?

No faustian bargains before all other behaviours are checked, you're still destitute and in desperate need of function at specific times for specific reasons. Otherwise keep your energy up, leak your lacrimals as needed, sleep well and refer only to them in the present tense. You'll be right as rain in time. Do not run.

I thought we were talking about a sustained, natural high metabolic rate, and not about some state artificially induced by some drugs or substances.

No, if a loved one died I wouldn't take any substance that induces euphoria just to feel better. But if I'm in a high energy state from diet and general lifestyle, I wouldn't see that as a problem even if I'm grieving. If we're talking about substances like thyroid, I wouldn't stop taking that (if I took it) just to feel worse.

Although I'm just talking hypothetical nonsense as it's been a while since I was in a (sustained) state like that. Like @ThinPicking, I'm just a fake peater and for the most part I'm only here to post bad memes and make bad jokes.

                        @winters

I see euphoric as a state in which your actions can flow unimpeded, it's a cliche but it's a state in which you can be you with no regrets, no “artificial” obstacles holding you back. No lack of emotion due to ultra-high serotonin, no “introversion” due to lack of metabolic energy, no procrastination due to wanting to save energy that you haven't even used yet, and obviously this includes no disproportional emotion.

When my metabolism is high I don't feel like I'm in a state of “mania”, I just feel confident that I'm going to act and feel as I see fit, no “voice that isn't mine” leading me astray. I think it's a feature of a healthy metabolism to feel sad when you're supposed to, so I imagine that if your metabolism is healthy you'll express what you're supposed to in a healthy way. It's not healthy to feel nothing when something big has happened, just as it's not healthy to feel your life crushed by something futile.

Having resiliency/mental fortitude and joy that comes from within, not from external sources, which can be so fleeting and makes us a slave to circumstance, is ideal, in my opinion and experience. Like so many people, I’ve experienced a lot of tragedy in my life that would have killed me had I not had within me this inextinguishable joy, the kind of joy where I can sit in an empty room and not want to be anywhere but there in that moment, I’m so happy for life and my existence.

Sure, why not. I already had a meeting with the "Procrastinators Unite" group, but we have postponed the meeting indefinitely.
