      Daily collagen, gelatin and occasional bone broth user here. Had purchased glycine and proline to add to my collagen containers to "boost" their content. Basically i'll add a scoop of each.

      Am a big believer in the amino acids contained within; improves digestion, quells certain types of pain, healing, that general calmness. That's not including everything i've read elsewhere obviously.

        @BioEclectic LLM told me free glycine amino acid is different effect than collagen peptides because in those forms even when the proteins break down they dont all break down into single aminos and many get assimilated as peptide chains with very little free glycine. apparently free glycine has different and more drug like effects and especially for the liver it is different than getting glycine from collagen and foods. i.e. maybe when you take collagen / gelatin you're only getting 200mg free glycine even though "total" glycine content is 2.5g. when you take 2.5g free glycine that is very different effect than the same amount in peptides. also ignore totally Redditors that say it doesn't matter because collagen peptides get broken down into single aminos, that is totally BS and disproven by radiolabel studies showing peptides get uptake directly to tissues.

          Bone broth is considered high (H3), while beef collagen is weaker, depending on the way to make it. Let's say H2 to be sure.
          And of course, if you take 20 g collagen powder in one take, it's going to make you go to toilet, when not accustomed.
          Haidut said once, that 10 g glycine was advised, and that 2 g was assimilated from 10 g (study). Begin with half the dose.

            On the contrary I can eat lean meat and feel good.

            Two different concepts: the increase of urinary oxalate after consuming gelatin due to its hydroxyproline content, and the use of gelatin as a medium for growing calcium oxalate crystals in laboratory experiments... not good

              Interesting, and jibes a bit with what i've read about other peptide chains that don't necessarily break down to their individual components after ingestion, hydroxyproline being one example.

              In my case that i outlined above, adding a full rounded tablespoon of pure glycine and proline to a freshly opened 7oz container of collagen. Would they not remain separate or do you feel they would form new peptide chains and reduce their individual effectiveness? If forced to guess i'd think they'd mostly remain separate but ....

              Some new to me info in this thread, i'll have to keep it in mind and research further.

                @BioEclectic no the separate powders won't react as dry powders . what you're saying would only occur under heat where it melts the powders or you add water to make a solution.

                I would just keep them separate and not mix them because you might want to take different amounts of glycine and what you mix at first might be too much, and also I dont think you'll mix them evenly in the container, proper pharmaceutical mixing requires rotating drums that go for a certain amount of time or a mortar and pestle to grind the powders to equal densities, and various other methods. just putting it and shaking it around isnt accurate because different powders have different densities and will settle out differently.

                also if you mix them and want to take free glycine before bed, you won't have a proper experiment to see if it works well, because ive heard collagen peptides can actually interfere with sleep sometimes, and maybe ive felt this effect myself (not sure but just saying), while free glycine for me promotes restful sleep. etc.

                      NMDA is awful when increased. Most effects we think serotonin does are actually NMDA working in tandem. Trust me, NMDA makes you fucking stupid instantly.

                        If you research the reason why it causes extremely vivid dreams and you seek to maximize this effect, it is because it shortens deep sleep and stretches out REM sleep, causing you to have lower quality sleep. Choline has a similar MOA, so you can min sleep quality with it as well

                            been taking glycine (1g), beef collagen (2 scoops), gelatin (2 scoops) for more than a year, curious where can I learn more about this? what is considered excess..my understanding is having higher serotonin level is not a good thing.. and would like to avoid it if possible.
