Advice for an overweight peater starting his journey?

Hey, novice peater here. (Apologies in advance for the paragraphs!)
As someone suffering from Gynecomastia, excess hip fat and general obesity (87kg 5’10) from roughly a decade of poor diet, marijuana use and overall hormonal disruption - I am doing all the peaty things I am supposed to do.
Minimising PUFA to all extents, eating simple sugars (fruit, honey, milk), grassfed ruminant meats (mainly beef mince and lamb), daily carrot salad etc. I’ve got the shower filter, wooden chopping board and most of the anti-estrogenic measures in place. I am also exercising (heavy lifting 1-3 times a week, ocean swims, walks in nature and the occasional soccer game).
I feel as though I am consuming advice from multiple members of the community that already have a good metabolism and figure in place - and cannot seem to find resources from people in the situation like myself, starting the long road to recovery.
My question is in two parts:
- Should I be following the same dietary guidelines as someone with optimal metabolic and physical functionality?
- If not, what does a good diet look like for someone like me attempting to kickstart my health after years of neglect?
My concerns are regarding overall fat intake (currently consuming unhomogenised full cream jersey milk and fatty ratios of beef mince or cuts of lamb vs opting for low fat milk and leaner cuts) and the optimal consumption of “healthy fats” for weight loss and metabolic rate increase.
I understand that with a faster metabolism, I will lose weight naturally. Yet I fear that since my body is not functioning anywhere near optimally (most likely suffering from hypothyroidism), that if I follow dietary guidelines of people with optimal metabolic and physical functions, that it will not serve my body in the same way.

@enjoyeroflife If you think you're hypothyroid that's a good place to start. Measure basal body temp and RHR. Then look into T3/T4. I've also found that 1 tbsp of coconut oil in coffee works well to raise temp.

@enjoyeroflife I worked with Hans Amato and his advice was to try to be lowfat in the beginning, be in a slight caloric deficit and avoid PUFA's at all cost.

What's your appetite like? How do you feel after having a ton of fruit/sugar?

Engaging in playful behaviors, no matter how small, can certainly lead the body into a healthy state. Something devilish like telling your twitter followers gn then firing off a few forum posts before bed can keep the mind and mitochondria engaged

Heal your liver before you start trying to consume insane amounts of sugar

@enjoyeroflife kickstarting is a very apt word and honestly I would say don’t eat like a normie because you have to do more to get there. Reading peat’s articles on specific targeted therapies will help. A good clue is gyno being an estrogen overload - what opposes estrogen? Pufas mimic estrogen too btw.

@dannyphantom Solid advice Thankyou. Already avoiding PUFA’s at all costs (when eating meals prepared by my girlfriend’s family, I have no real choice) but will start the low fat grind. Ultimately, it didn’t feel right consuming the levels of fat I am currently, and I think eating what feels right and good is the most important of all

@Lukey I wouldn’t say I’m consuming massive amounts of sugar. A glass of milk most days, a mango (or similar amount of fruit) most days - and probably 5 tbsps of raw honey throughout the week.
But tips for healing the liver?

@Lukey just recently started supplementing with liver guard (milk thistle) so seems like I’m on the right track

The ones I usually recommend to people new to Peat are:
- Caffeine: A vitamin-like nutrient, or adaptogen
- Coconut Oil
- Estrogen and brain aging in men and women
- Fats and degeneration
- Gelatin, stress, longevity
- Oils in Context Oils in Context
- Serotonin, depression, and aggression: The problem of brain energy
- The dark side of stress (learned helplessness)

I don't have any other advice for you besides what was already suggested above, just want to wish you good luck on your journey as well

Small thing, I lost a bit of weight and I haven't gained anything even though I don't work out as much. I honestly think it's because of using coconut oil.
